Pain, pain, and more pain!

Recommended Posts

Night before last I started having a pain in my lower back, just below the rib cage. I take pain meds and it goes away. This is my left side, btw! Meanwhile also left side front is also very much painful. That pain has been there since I woke up from surgery, runs through the incision site to the new pain position in my back area. I lose my breath and Can't catch it back unless I sit up! Is it possible this is Constipation related? Help!

There are several things they could be, ranging from very normal incision soreness that will clear up soon to serious internal issues that you may need medical assistance to take care of. Have you talked to your surgeon's office, or seen your doctor?

Could be gas pain, but u have been through a lot in one surgery though so best to get checked out. I had excruciating pain after my lap band was put in...it was related to the gas they pump inside you to gain visibility during surgery. The stomach often refers pain to ur back and chest as I found out when my band related reflux and indigestion was at its worst. very painful but standing up and moving about helped me a little as I recall....

I had that kind of pain for about a week after my surgery and it was due to gas. Are you able to walk? Walking helps alleviate the gas pain a bit. If it is really intense. continues, or is accompanied by a fever, though, be sure to call your doctor's office. They would rather you call and it be nothing than to have you have a complication and ignore it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
