Hey guys got my surgery date yesterday after meeting with the surgeon here in Michigan! My day is November 18! Started my 2 week preop diet but today I have to get an EGD done on my tummy as a precaution...anyone else have to get this procedure done?

Yup.

Sure did. The surgeon that did my sleeve wanted to be the one who did the EGD.

It was a breeze.

I scheduled for early in the morning. Fasted after 10:30pm.

Arrived there at 6:15am.

They had me bag in the room in just a few minutes.

It was like taking a really nice nap. A non-event.

I was instructed to have a driver due to the anesthesia meds.

No problems.

Ok I'm scheduled for this afternoon @ 1p and haven't eaten dice midnight.

The same for me with the surgeon she's doing the procedure as well.

Thanks for the info! Feel a bit more at ease ????

My EGD was done at a hospital close to home since my surgeon is an hour away. It was not really so bad but since I was at a hospital that doesn't do bariatric stuff, the machine was almost too small for me to fit. They had to lay me down and have me move around and turn to get the barium to coat my stomach. It was weird.

Let us know how yours goes.

It was a very simple procedure, literally all of 10 minutes for her to scope and review me she said.

It took longer prepping me for the procedure because it was hard to get an IV started for me (nothing new)

I would for sure prefer an early morning spot if I had to ever do it again because my sugar was super low from not eating for so long.

Everything came out to be perfect and no issues so I'll be sleeved November 18th as planned! So excited!

Thanks again guys on the insight

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
