Celiac pre surgery! Can anyone tell me if they have and how it has gone?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting ready to have the surgery but I also have celiac and I am scared to death of having malnutrition issues can anyone advise me on this? I know often people have been diagnosed after but have any been pre-diagnosed before surgery?

I haven't but maybe there are other folks who have. Have you tried searching celiac in the forums.

I would suggest that your surgeon and NUT would be the best resource for addressing this question.

Celiac disease damages the lining of the small intestine when you eat gluten. When you stop eating gluten, the small intestine will start healing, and complications will improve (like joint pain, brain fog, malnutrition).

You seriously won't be eating gluten for at least six months. I would think your celiac disease would improve after surgery if you are having trouble now avoiding temptation.

I had my surgery in September. But I just learned yesterday that I have a gluten allergy, so I am trying to stay away from gluten as much as possible any advice.

I'm not celiac exactly but I'm gluten sensitive so I have to avoid large quantities of gluten so bread or Pasta more than once a week kills my stomach. The very nature of the post op diet is high in Protein and low in carbs like those with gluten, so I think you'll be fine and may actually improve your control over your celiac a disease.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
