Sharp provolone cheese

Recommended Posts

Have you had other cheeses?

Outside of a few exceptions, most cheeses will be tolerated the same. If you can eat one, you can eat most. If you can handle a slice of sharp cheddar, you can probably tolerate provolone.

Is the reason you ask these questions out of fear? You think if ten people say, "oh, yeah that was just fine for me, I'd eat it!" that you won't dump or have a bad reaction?

I love cheese, but I found post-op that I do better with the lower fat cheeses. Richer cheeses seem stronger to me. Once you are cleared for soft foods like cheese, the only way to really know is to try it.

I wouldn't touch it.....or any food type that I haven't been cleared for.

I wouldn't even think about those foods or be out shopping for them.

It's just a way to torment yourself and remain food-focused.

Hopefully the NUT has given you a safe list of foods that are appropriate for the stage you are at. You just have to form you daily menus from there and be done with it. Let it go.

Sure, it's going to be a limited menu......but it's supposed to be restricted to safe foods.

Looking beyond at future foods is pointless and constantly doing so may keep you from breaking free from it.

My two cents, anyway. Unsolicited, of course.

With all due respect, I agree with Dub. If you don't know what you should or should not be eating, bother the shit out of the NUT. It's what he/she is there for. If you do have a list of approved foods, follow it and don't focus on what you may or may not be able to eat down the road. Like all of us, you'll have to figure out through trial and error what and what doesn't work for you. More importantly, focus on non food things. Think about the type of exercise you want to participate in. Think about increasing said exercise over the next few days/weeks, months. Focus on the kind of clothes you want to get into once you start to get smaller. Think about why you got the surgery...

I've been banded for almost three years and food is important to me..but my life no longer revolves around it. Never in my life have I said as often as I do now, 'I don't care' when asked what or where I wanted to eat. I'm not saying I don't love food..of course I do. But when you follow the rules and only eat a small portion of it, what kind of food it is doesn't matter so much.

Good luck and keep on posting and asking questions.

How far out are you? I lived outside of Philadelphia for many years and it is a staple. It was one of the first cheeses I went back to, and I believe I had it at the pureed stage (two weeks out) for the first time. Unless you are even newer than that, it shouldn't be a problem. I had clearance for all cheeses from my NUT as of the late full liquids stage, in fact!

I agree that you should clarify with your own program what is permitted.

In my experience and observation, cheeses of all kinds are typically allowed during Month One. Not guaranteeing it's permitted on all programs. So ask your NUT / bariatric nurse or P.A.

P.S. I've eaten full-fat cheese since Week Two post-op. Have never had a problem.

Your nutritionist is being paid for you to pester her. Why not review the things you love/miss with her and ask for her recommendations? If it's not something you can have she offer an alternative.

I had shredded cheese from week 3 no issues.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
