August surgery updates-where are you now?

Recommended Posts

Just want to see How the August Group was doing post surgery.

I had my original surgery Aug. 10, 2015, I had a hard time get Protein Shakes down and felt very weak. I went to my general Dr. for my diabetes check up a week later. My blood test and blood oxygen level was very low. he sent me back to the hospital. I was in surgery within 2 hours. Apparently there was a leak. I ended up in the hospital till Sept. 14, 2015. They had to put a feeding tube(to keep my energy up) and do dialysis. I came home with the feeding tube (just in case I again could not get enough protein) and on oxygen. The feeding tube was taken out after 2 week but I and still on oxygen.Dr. is hoping by losing more weight I can get off the oxygen.

I am able to eat anything now. Most of the time I am able to get my Protein in. Every once in a while I do eat either too fast or don't chew small enough and feel miserable for 1-2 hours or dump. You kinda know as soon as you swallow when its gonna happen. It's been farther and farther apart because if feels so bad that you remember better and better every time you eat

I just got approved for portable oxygen tank and the ok from my Dr. to start working again with my trainer. I am hoping by getting an exercise routine again I will start losing weight faster. Even through the bad experience with the leak I do not regret my decision and am looking forward to the rest of my journey.

So hopefully we August surgery group can hear from each other.

I had surgery on 8/31 and finally doing really good. It was discovered 4 days post surgery that I have hypoglycemia so the first couple of weeks were rough and then I had terrible nausea until about week 6. I am adjusting to my new pouch and learning what I can tolerate and what I can't. Not really eating carbs except yogurt, fruit and veggies. Still struggle to eat some meats, mostly because my taste bud. My doctor said the hormone release can mimic pregnancy for about 3 months and was sick the whole 9 months I was pregnant with both kids. I didn't like meat when I was pregnant too.

I've lost 36 pounds and am down 2 pants sizes but much more on the top. People are definitely noticing and asking lots of questions. My standard answer is I'm on a strict diet and workout a lot; both of which are too. I've started strength training again, going back to yoga and my stamina while I work out is returning. Life is pretty good and finally don't regret my surgery.

I had surgery on 8/25 and have lost 74 pounds since. Things have been going surprisingly well. I have followed the nutritionists plan to the letter and have been fortunate enough to not to have had any negative reactions to any foods yet. I do have to continue to remind myself to eat slowly and chew well. There have been a few times that I have not done either very well and boy did it hurt. I had that stuck feeling. I am enjoying how much better I feel and I have gone from six blood pressure pills a day down to one. I hope everyone else is doing well!

Surgery was on 8/13. I have been doing crossfit since week 6. I went to work 5 days after surgery. My energy level is really up, and I feel really good about myself. I did have a stall for 3 weeks, and that sucked big time. But the scale is slowly moving again. I lost 15 lbs before surgery, and I am down 80 total.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
