First Post! Kinda hesitant...

At 47 years old.....all I can say is that I'm very happy to see you each take your health so serious now.

If you work hard and adhere to your plans....strictly......you can achieve mighty impressive results. It can truly change your life......while at my age it is to save my life.

It's not a "one and done" type situation, though. Those of us who've struggled through this for decades understand that.

It's imperative that you grasp this......it's going to take a lifetime of watching your calorie type and amounts. The surgery doesn't just fix it all. You will always be in the driver's seat and in control. Stay on track and you'll profit tremendously.

I'm not trying to preach.....please understand this. I'm simply wishing you each the very best. Gain control and stay in control and live without the burdens of obesity.

Slim, trim and young.......you'll be living the dream every day of your lives. Great stuff !!!!!!!!

I'm 26 and was thinking the same thing!

drumking88: How soon do you think you will have your surgery? I'm hoping for December for me

I'm hoping December or January too. I was lucky and don't have to do much for my insurance to cover it. I'm just waiting on approval.

I actually changed insurance providers to not have to wait another a year. There was a mix up with charting with PCP, and long story short, I had to start a process over and it became easier to change my insurance. I'm hoping to submit for insurance approval within the next two weeks. I hope to now more at my next appointment on Friday! The wait is driving me crazy though

Hey, I'm 27 too! Just waiting on approval as well. I'm so thankful we have the opportunity to do this at youngish age. I have read that the only regret people have with this is not doing it sooner. I'm hoping for a December surgery :)

I'm 28 and had my surgery a few months ago! Wish I did it sooner, but hey that's life! Welcome :)

@@drumking88 I had my sleeve 3 months ago the day after my 31st birthday. I would've qualified when I was 25 but wasn't independent then and faced backlash from my family which, incidentally, is full of doctors and health vigilantes. I had to get to an even more desperate state to convince them it was the right time.

I don't believe there is such a thing as too young for this surgery. If a problem is in the making, this should be available to everyone. You shouldn't have to wait until you are severely impacted. It is just denial by the community. There may be such a thing as too old, just due to surgical mortality risks, but nobody in the medical profession seems to put their money where there mouths are with childhood and adolescent obesity. Hopefully a generation from now, at which time experts think the obesity rate in the nation may be near 50%, young people like yourself will no longer feel underage in the bariatric community, as this solution expands its eligibility to where it truly should be, and gets covered by a lot more insurance.

The wait is killing me too! I'm impatient and I have sleep apnea so I can't wait to be able to sleep without that stupid mask!

I think I will be too afraid to sleep without the CPAP. I've known I've had sleep apnea for a few years, but didn't have insurance until early last year, so mine was pretty severe when I was finally diagnosed. I'm already scared of sleeping for 10 minutes without it, so I think it will be hard for me to let go of it.

So are you waiting on insurance approval or do you have more appointments that you need to complete before sending to insurance?

I think that the youngest sleever I have seen on the forum was a 17 year old girl whose mother took her to Mexico.

my son had a friend in high school who had the surgery when he was around 14. not sure but I believe it was either band or bypass. he was really heavy. I felt bad for him.

@@drumking88 - I'm glad yours works that way!

When I talked to the nurse at the bariatric center I'm working with, I feel like I'm not doing nearly as much as everyone else seems to be. I understand that all surgeons and centers are different, but I guess I'm afraid I'm missing something and surgery won't happen as quickly as I think it's going to.

Friday I meet with the Dietician, Mental Health, & Nursing staff in same day. Hopefully the surgeon the next week, then it goes for insurance approval, then surgery with blood work and an EKG before surgery. It almost feels to easy, so my anxiety goes crazy with all of it!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
