icon7.gifHello and feedback needed

Hi Everyone,

This is a wonderful forum with SO much information!

I posted this message in the introduction section, but I think I probably should have posted it here instead -- so here goes.............

I have made the decision to get the band in Mexico (I think) and have narrowed my choices down to three Docs -- Rumbaut, Ortiz, and Zapata. Zapata is the least expensive of the three.

Questions:

Any opinions about which of these three I should choose?

Are there any other Doctors that I should consider?

They say you get what you pay for, but in this case all three Doctors seem excellent -- so is it safe to just go with the least expensive?

Thank you so much for your help!

I was very happy with Dr. Valencia. I think he has the best credentials of all the doctors I researched in Mex.

Good luck!

Everyone knows I swear by Dr. Zapata but not just because I went there but I sent my motherinlaw, sisterinlaw and brother on October 31st of 07. I'm less than 40 pounds from goal, my brother is at goal and the other 2 are within 50 pounds. He is fabulous. His asst. alma is wonderful. She calls me every month or so. His whole staff is tops. My daughter is a nurse at Lourders where Dr. Agartaue does these and was having a fit because I didn't use him and I told her I have pics of the hospital where Dr. Zapata does surgery and where I was and it makes ours around here look like a clinic. I had a private suite with french doors overlooking the mountains of Monterrey. The nurses were fabulous. He's done over 7000 and my daughter's Dr. had done 125. It was a no brainer for me. If I can help you any I have pics, all the phone numbers, his cell phone number and email addys. I have called Dr. Zapata twice and got to talk to him, not someone under him twice and once at midnight.

I wish you luck and he really is topnotch.

Pm me if I can help at all.

hugs,

Sherri Jo

Hi Sherri Jo,

Wow! That was a great recommendation and it gives me a real comfort level with Dr. Zapata -- especially considering that you and so many people in your family have been to him.

From the pics on the website the hospital facility does look very nice. Thank you so much for your kind offer of additional info/advice, I will probably be taking you up on that very soon.

Thanks again! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
