I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter. Everyone had a horror story about 48 hour labors, delivery complications, etc. At the time, I wondered why on earth people would share such terrible things with someone who was so happy to be having a child. (I went through infertility treatments - the pregnancy was a blessing and I was scared enough.)

You know there could be complications. I'm assuming you know the numbers and the frequency. If not, ask your doc for that info. They are relatively small. And you have the story of every person here who had an experience that was uneventful and is thrilled with the choice they made. Like me. If I had the choice, I'd do it all over again.

People are idiots sometimes.

I'll never forget when my wife was expecting. There were complications and it was a high risk pregnancy. We both were on edge the entire time.

I can still remember the horror stories that people felt compelled to burden us with during that time.

Fukking idiots.

I don't understand why folks feel compelled to burden you with stupid stuff like that. Tell her she's a bitch for doing so and sucks as a hairdresser.

Besides.....you are going to be rocking a new body in short order....might as well have a new hairdresser, too.

Idiots will idiot.

Thank goodness that you are grown and do not need her help in making your medical decisions.

Sounds like it's time for a new hairdresser! Seriously, screw her... like you said, you've already had the surgery, so what is the point of her telling a (probably second- or third-hand) horror story? Everyone knows that all the Time-Turners at the Ministry of Magic were destroyed when Dumbledore's Army fought the Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries, so it's not like you can go back and un-have the surgery.

Awesome !!!!

I became a Harry Potter fan while enjoying the movies with my son as he grew up.......now my wife and I still enjoy them.

Great stuff.

Sorry for the derail....but that was a cool HP analogy.

If I had a dollar for every person who knew a friend of a friend who had something bad happen because of WLS I'd be a rich gal by now. Her story matter not. I am living, breathing proof of the benefits of this surgery. I have lost 114lbs! That is a full grown adult women in fat! I feel better than I have in years!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
