Ketchup and quiche

Recommended Posts

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

You may find that you don't even like these things you are asking questions about. I used to love eggs, now they both gag me and sit so heavy in my tummy that I cannot eat them.

ketchup, I cannot remember the last time I used it. Maybe on a meatloaf recipe. Speaking of meatloaf, used to love it now I don't care if I ever eat it again.

Oh and someone mentioned French fries. Double yuck. All I can taste is the oil they are fried in. I have tried them several times because they smell good but am always happy when they just don't appeal.

Now, give me a piece of beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin ,chicken breast, fish or shrimp and I am all over that. Add a great vegetable or a side salad, yummo!

It really is strange the way you change.

I will say that I do love cheesecake now so I need to be very careful and treat myself only once in a while.

I make my own ketchup and have for a really long time. I have two go-to recipes and one requires a small amount of sugar, the other none at all. It took some getting used to as for many people the "sweetness" of ketchup is familiar and without it, it tends to feel a little "flat." The great thing about making your own ketchup is you can add or take away from it however you prefer.

Quiche is something I made several times a month as it freezes well and transports nicely. I don't make quiche at this stage in post-op but I do make frittatas. Frittatas is basically a crust-less quiche. They are super versatile, easy to make, packed with Protein, low-carb and I imagine you could put all the ketchup you wanted on them.

Just thought I'd add...I USED TO DIP MY WAFFLES IN ketchup AS A LITTLE GIRL. Now that, makes me feel yucky just thinking about that...???? I'm a big ketchup fan too tho. I loved it on tacos, burritos, eggs, steak, chicken, mac and cheese...just about anything!!! meat wise, all I've had since surgery is chicken. Everything else just feels weird going down. Something to do with texture that just isn't sitting well...and yes...I've used tiny bits if ketchup on my chicken!! I figured since I cut out ALL SUGAR from my diet, a dab of chuppy AKA ketchup can't hurt all that much!! ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
