HopeandAgony 566 Posted November 2, 2015 Hi! I am on day one of my 2 week pre op diet. My diet consists of 2 shakes per day and a lean meat dinner with veggies. I have had my two shakes. I am drinking a ridiculous amount of Water to try to compensate for the funny head feelings I have. Not really a headache, almost like medicine head. So weird. I am also clinching my teeth for some reason. I've been chewing sugar free gum to distract myself. I also went outside and walked a mile on my lunch break. I am praying for the willpower to stick with this for the next two weeks.
dlappjr 467 Posted November 2, 2015 Keep it up! I remember thinking how hard it was at the time. Looking back it doesn't seem like it was that bad. You are doing good by keeping yourself busy. I went through a lot of sugar free Jello and popsicles before surgery also. Not sure if they are approved on your plan or not, but they helped me get through a few days of fixing my bad munching habits.
MarciaN 391 Posted November 2, 2015 You can go this! You'll be surprised that each day gets easier and by day 3 or 4 you will be in the rhythm of things. (My surgery has been postponed 2xs so far so I've done this 2 separate times. I start again on the 10th. Third time is the charm!)
KindaFamiliar 3,867 Posted November 2, 2015 You'll be fine... The payoff is more than worth the pain...
HopeandAgony 566 Posted November 2, 2015 Thanks all. I knew it would be hard and I know I'm strongest at first go. I just need to grin and bear it. I'm very thankful that I get to eat food for dinner. I am able to sugar free Jello and popcicles, and I did buy some. I have elected to make one part of my dinner. My Dr really encouraged stopping the snacking/grazing. That is a huge part of my problem overall so now is as good a time of any to tame that beast. As much as I wish I could go to sleep for the next two weeks I really need to learn a few things so ultimately this is for the best.
Thucydides 250 Posted November 2, 2015 I am three weeks into my four-week pre-op diet. It wasn't fun at the beginning (hunger, light-headed, grouchiness), but it has gotten better over time. The other benefit is that, although my surgery is not until next week, I am already losing weight and feeling better. You will do great!
HopeandAgony 566 Posted November 3, 2015 So I just ate dinner. I am ending the evening at 691 calories. I have drank 102 Oz of Water no additive (and still drinking), and had about 70 grams of Protein. I feel hungry. Lol. I have about 2 hours until I can feasibly go to bed. Ack! You can nail it down. It's only two weeks. It'll be a lot easier after your surgery.

HopeandAgony 566 Posted November 3, 2015 I am writing down my pre- diet meal plan. Any suggestions? Have you gotten any guidance from your surgeon? Mine pretty much took the guess work out of it for me. A shake for Breakfast, a shake for lunch, and a high Protein no/low carb dinner (basically 4oz of lean meat and non starchy veggies). I was told sugar free Jello and popcicles are OK but I'm going to try to avoid them.
beachgal2935 596 Posted November 3, 2015 I had a blast with my 2 week pre-op liquid diet! I was given 5 Optifast 800 Protein Shakes per day (vanilla & chocolate) plus any non-caloric beverages I wanted. Lost 15 lbs.in 2 weeks and took the surgeon only 2 hours to perform my surgery. htowngentleman 7 Posted November 3, 2015 Weird that some Drs allow solid foods in the two weeks, and some allows none at all... Jealous...
