Surgery is 11/17 and starting to freak out!

Recommended Posts

I start my liquid diet tomorrow and I'm starting to freak out! I'm 5'8 and 261 pounds, my family keeps telling me I'm not that big and should reconsider. I have two small kids which I want to be healthy for, but also freak out because I don't want anything to go wrong with having two small kids. Please tell me this is normal and everyone goes through this and I will be fine.

This is normal, everyone goes thru this and you'll be fine...

It's that simple...

Of course, I'm no doctor/surgeon/mystical seer...

And you're having surgery, so there is ALWAYS gonna be the chance of complications...

But we've all had the surgery and are all here to tell the tale..

Good luck to you @@losing100#

Make sure you keep us updated as you move thru the process..

Thank you all! At least I know I'm not alone on these feelings. My stomach is all kinds of messed up right now. I just need to keep telling myself this is the best thing for me and my family! I want to have a healthy future with my family!

Don't think it would be normal if your mind didn't race all over the place. Just take a deep breath and remember why you even started down this path.

After your surgury just follow what they tell you to do…no short cuts, cheating, thinking "well just this" be patient it all falls into place. The discomfort passes and if you follow along you and your 2 children will enjoy life so much more.

Pretty much did this on my own with 7 pets to care for and an OCD condition even then could not put aside for more then 48hrs. With 2 kids your a strong person and will prevail. I am excited for you all. Nerves aside, Go for it!

You are gonna do great.

Focus on the daily diet and watch the weight fall off these next two weeks.

It's understandable to be on edge right now. Surround yourself with positive people and grind out the pre-op diet.

Don't read the whining or complaining posts or listen to the food focused people who can't envision not eating cupcakes every day.

You'll do great and reach your health goals in time for beach season.

<<< Frantically waving from the corner!!! I posted darn near the same thing 2 weeks ago when I got my date (which is the day before yours). I started my pre op diet today. Been quite the adventure so far.

Anyway. I have kids too, one very much a toddler. I am not as tall as you, I'm 5'4" and am at 250 lbs. I have a solid support system so that definitely helps me, and nobody has discouraged me (might be because I'm an onery b!t#h and nobody wants to cross me). Find 2 supportive people that you can talk to through out the next two week as well as afterwards. You'll do great. You've come this far and started this process for a reason, don't forget that reason. Let me know if you need to talk.

Also, after my initial freak out I've been much better so maybe it'll pass for you too.

@@Solmar I'm following my surgeons diet plan. I can have 5 Protein Shakes a day or I can replace up to two shakes with Nutrifast Soups. I have to drink at least 64 oz of Water and can also have sugar free Jello and popsicles.

I am a day before you, and on day 2. I'm doing OK. I definitely have a weird headache going on. The span between lunchtime shake and dinner is by far the hardest for me, I start to feel extremely nauseous. I have been trying things to keep busy to distract my mind. Good luck on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
