JengaBee 38 Posted November 2, 2015 I'm planning on a gastric sleeve in January with Dr. A. in Mexico. My husband will be coming with me. We have a baby that just turned one. Neither of us feel comfortable leaving him with anyone here. So, would it be a problem to bring him???
Chanti_ 27 Posted November 2, 2015 You should contact your surgeon or his coordinator and discuss it with them to see if they can accommodate having your child with you. I've never heard of anyone doing this before. But they allow a friend or family member to stay with you so I can't imagine it would be too much of a problem. The only thing I would worry about is taking your child into a hospital where he could be exposed to sickness. Will you be around other patients who are sick? The last thing you want is your child exposed to RSV or some other virus and ending up sick too. If your Dr A is my Dr A, ie Dr Alvarez, his bariatric patients were not in contact with other patients. All the patient rooms I saw were medium to large sized private rooms and bathrooms, shower stall only though no tub, So no baths for your munchkin for a few days. It seemed we had a whole floor of the hospital for us. Perhaps that's just my perception but I was up walking the halls frequently and I only saw other WLS patients. Kindle 8,667 Posted November 2, 2015 Since you won't be able to lift anything, just take into consideration the logistics of your husband dealing with his luggage and your luggage and the baby. I know of some folks that went to Mexico alone because their spouse either had to work or stay home with the kids. I travelled alone and did just fine. The shuttle driver, hotel bell hops and complete strangers in the airport ended up helping me with my carry on bag.
