Has anyone moved off of the pureed stage sooner than 2 weeks, either by doctor guidance or just because you felt it was the right thing to do?

I ask because I'm only taking in about 300 calories and 20 grams of Protein per day. I feel like it would be healthier to move on to soft foods to get the proper nutrition.

I was never required a pureed stage. By day ten I was allowed and recommended to start eating soft Proteins. Lean meats, moist chicken, tender turkey, seafood, soft cheeses etc.

But you should follow your surgeon's plan/orders.

In all fairness plenty of individuals have a pureed stage that lasts upwards of four weeks, they get their Protein in, their calories in, their fluids in and take their Vitamins in with no issues.

You might want to evaluate what you are eating, how you are getting your Protein and being concerned if you are healing properly. The other issue is at two weeks out, you may do more damage by eating foods that could hurt your new stomach. You won't know right away because everything is still healing and you might end up with complications down the road.

My surgeon doesn't let EVERYBODY transition from full liquids to soft Proteins. So, it is best to follow your surgeon's plan. It really, really is.

You should be drinking Protein drinks to get your Protein in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
