What did you do to minimize the incision scars after WLS? How soon post op did you start treating the incisions? Anyone look like they were never there to begin with?

Almost all of mine are invisible except the one cut that was right across a large stretch mark, it turned dark but it is starting to lighten.

I used these http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=414081&catid=287261&aid=338666&aparam=414081&kpid=414081&CAWELAID=120142990000030793&CAGPSPN=pla

I cut them in half and kept them on almost all day and a strong put Vitamin E oil on at night. I'm 3.5 months out. I am pretty sure by 6 months you won't even be able to see them.

In six more weeks, I will pass my two year mark. My biggest sleeve incision is pink, and the other three are hard to find.

When all the scabs were gone, I asked my PCP if I could start putting lotion on the area and of course I could. So I would mix a little of this:

https://www.mederma.com/products/advanced-scar-gel

In with an all over cocoa butter lotion.

I am just about eight weeks post op and the look of my scars are minimal.

I didn't like to look at mine. Plus, I am a picker so I had to make sure I kept them covered with my shirt so I wouldn't be tempted to mess with them.

I admit I use the Palmer's because I love the smell, too.

I was warned against putting anything other than warm Water on the incisions until they scabbed. Alcohol, peroxide and neosporin can actually retard healing. Once they scabbed I use scarfade gel because I tend to keloid. My scars were raised and red. The scarfade gel flattened them. After that I used bio oil because I had a free sample, but mostly I use virgin cold pressed coconut oil. Except for the large incision the rest are barely noticeable.

I first used scarfade gel after I had facial shingles. It worked miracles. I had shingles in 2010. The dermatologist recommended this.

I went from this

shingles 4

shingles2

to this

FullSizeRender (2)

I have a barely discernible scar on my nose. I swear by scarfade gel.

I'm about 2.5 months out. You guys think treating my scars now would help or have I waited too long to start?

I don't think it would be too late. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just use a good body oil or belly balm. I like Palmer's cocoa bitter and/or Palmer's cocoa oil. They both have Vitamin e, and smell good.

@@animel and whomever

Use whatever products you want at the appropriate time. They may work or not. If they don't, consider the trade you chose: Loads of body fat, lumps and bumps and sags for a few, little scars. Not so bad after all.

When I had my gallbladder out 13+ yrs ago I didn't do anything and my scars faded so far into the background my surgeon couldn't find them all-me either! So this time around I've got 4 tiny slits and a hole where the drain was. I don't think the slits will leave a lasting scar, but the drain hole looks like it's gonna be ugly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
