I had my surgery Friday but I still can't drink anything . When I do I just gag. I am extremely nauseated and full of gas. Any recommendations? What can I take for nausea?

Did you surgeon give you any prescriptions for acid reflux and nausea? I was very fortunate to not have nausea once I was home but in the hospital I was given Zofran for nausea. I was also given Prevacid for one month post op.

Call yor surgeon's office, tell the answering service you need a call from the surgeon or on call doctor. You can probably get a prescription called into your pharmacy today.

to get rid of the gas do some walking it really does help. IF they did not send you home with any medication to help you, you should get in touch with your doc. once you get that taken care of just hang in there it really does get better and it does not take very long. My first couple of days were a little rough but after that things got better really quickly.

You must sip Water or you will end up back in the hospital with dehydration. Flavor the water with drops if necessary. 1 ounce every 15 minutes if that is all you can do. It got much easier quickly for me, but those first two days with no IV to keep myself hydrated were difficult. Walk, walk, walk....even down the driveway and back...got rid of the gas quickly for me. Good luck!

Make sure you call your Dr ASAP. They should have an after hours number.

Also try different temperatures of fluids. At first, warm was all I could handle. Cold made my stomach cramp up. Thankfully that stopped after a few days.

I was nauseated and contacted the after care nurse. She advised me to add an additional dose of prilosec because she felt that I probably had too much acid in my tummy. Seemed to do the trick. But contact your team. You cannot allow yourself to be dehydrated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
