burning incision pain

Recommended Posts

I have one incision that burns like it's got a hot poker stuck to it. None of the others do this. Any opinions?

Is it the one located on your left side, about 3cm long? Not the furthest left one that is quite small. If so that one for me was the most sore after surgery. It is the one they removed my stomach portion through. Also the abdominal wall muscles in that spot are disrupted during the surgery and need to be sutured, so this will be the most painful spot, and for me was sorest for the longest. That being said it was twingey, I would never describe it as severe pain. Mainly painful if I stretched or moved the wrong way, but by day 5 I could sleep on that side no problem.

So 'hot poker' sounds a little alarming. How far out of surgery are you? Are you taking pain meds?

No burning in any of my incisions. I am 6 days out. I would look for redness, swelling, tenderness over the incision site itself and any drainage. If no fever and none of those present, I would just call the office in the morning and report it. could be nerve injury from the surgery which can occur anytime incisions made.

I am now 4 days out and it doesn't hurt constantly, usually only after sleeping or with a good bit of movement. I have been watching closely for redness, tenderness and drainage. It was really swollen right after surgery and has went down considerably. It's the incision on my right side and is a little longer than the others. It's also bruised, where the others are not. I'm thinking it's where most of the manual manipulation was done. I've gotta call the doc in the morning anyway. My insurance would only pay for 12 Zofran instead of the 20 that was ordered. I am still having some bouts of nausea at times.

My largest incision felt very hot to the touch and very painful early out. I just put an ice pad on it and took pain medicine. If the site looks ok and you're not running a temperature it's probably just a normal healing process. But if you have doubts certainly call your surgeon. Try putting ice on it?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
