Flying Tips - Almost 4 Mos Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm 3 mos out, and will be flying for Thanksgiving (I'll be 4 Mos). I haven't flown in a while. Does anyone have tips, watch outs, etc? I'm mostly concerned about transporting my prescription meds, Vitamins and Protein powder! Thanks in advance!

I will be flying at 6 weeks. Very nervous about handling it.

I didn't have any problems at all - no one asked any questions or even asked to see them. It might be different if you're flying internationally, but I sailed right through on a domestic flight

You should be fine, make sure meds are in original containers. Ask for a Water immediately when getting on plane or buy one in the terminal to bring on with you. In Atlanta I found a few terminals had a few stores with yogurts/cheese/pepperoni. Greatest part is fitting more comfortably in seat!

So it sounds like the important pieces are to carry on prescriptions in the original Rx bottle? I'm hoping to check some nectar "To Go" packets and a couple Quest bars. For Vitamins, do you think I can put it in my checked baggage without the original containers? I'm going to be gone for 8 days. :)

Carrying a controlled substance in anything other than it's original container is a Federal Crime. Use the bottles that the pharmacy gave you. Remember, even though you know what meds you are carrying, if you get some asshat TSA agent they may detain you while they verify each pill is not a control. Not worth the risk.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
