usedtobeaskater 58 Posted October 31, 2015 Four days out it takes me 1 1/2 hours to drink Protein Drink. Water tough getting down too. Is this normal? Headache from hell but do not want to take pain meds. Any advice???
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted October 31, 2015 The headache may be caffeine withdrawal. Have you been a coffee, tea, or cola drinker preop?
sugar17 3 Posted October 31, 2015 Ironically I was going to post a similar post. Had surgery 10/27/2015. It also takes me about an hour and a half to get Protein Shake down and another hour and a half to drink a bottle of Water. I have the headache as well but am thinking it is from anesthesia although it could be caffeine withdrawal. Still very fatigued and sore. it's getting a little better each day but wish I was a little more "back on my feet" . So are others experiencing the same? Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted October 31, 2015 Yes, it's normal. Just keep sipping. It will get easier every day.

Headache from hell but do not want to take pain meds. Any advice??? Normal for four days out. You can take Tylenol for headaches if you don't want to use the prescription pain meds you were sent home with.
lealor 127 Posted October 31, 2015 @usedtobeaskater very normal for me... I still take a long long long time to consume a glass of Water or any fluids and I am 2 months out
ididit34 91 Posted November 1, 2015 I had surgery on 10/26 and I got a headache yesterday for the first time. It wasn't too bad. I'm having such difficulty getting my Water in as well. However I can say that the Water is going down better today than before. Hopefully by the end of next week, I'll be able to get all 64oz in. I've been drinking the Isopure water versus the shakes I were during the pre-op.
Nibbler 71 Posted November 1, 2015 How ironic is it that I spent my life trying to eat less and now I'm having trouble eating/drinking enough to stay alive! 2weeks 3 days post op, no regrets, just concern that I'm not healing fast enough. Had sleeve, gallbladder removed and hiatial hernia repair. Stlll sore. still sleeping alone (fear of getting kneed in my gut) Tracking calories and pretty sure 300-400 per day is not enough to make my brain work and my body function. I will continue each day to try and increase that. What a challenge this is. I will tell you one thing. Anyone tries to tell me weight loss surgery is the "lazy" way to lose weight had better not say it to me in the same room....i'll slap 'em silly. feeling frustrated
Ls2dv8 3 Posted November 1, 2015 Congrats on your successful surgery. I am recently out to, and yes, I sip sip sip But each day seems to get better I found walking helped me feel better in general. I am walking about 20 min every 2 hours asked it helped my shoulder pain armed headache Good luck and congrats again
The Candidate 3,215 Posted November 1, 2015 It's very normal to have difficulty getting your liquids in right out of the gate. It will get better though as you go along.
Michael Hamilton 37 Posted November 1, 2015 Sounds about right. Water more important than Protein Shakes at 4 days out. I find that room temp water is easier to go down than cold water. I keep bottled water everywhere I go. I have bottled water at home , in my truck, and at work.. 4 bottles a day is the recommended amount. Sometime I add those crystal light single packages to my water bottle when I am wanting something sweeter. I remember early on not being able to gulp water because it was very painful, so I would take a big mouthful of water and slowly release it down the back of my throat so it wouldn't be painful. As for the headaches, that could be dehydration too. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Water is critical for survival, but water and protein are both critical for healing.
lealor 127 Posted November 1, 2015 Lime I said I had a coffee a week out and still do. Half caf most days. Not in protocol but I just had to. I still have gard time with fluids 2 months out. Just be patient. Take a Tylenol for your headache and walking does help. Its a hard adjustment to sip sip sip. Hate that part. ☺☺
Ryan TN 348 Posted November 1, 2015 Four days out it takes me 1 1/2 hours to drink Protein drink. Water tough getting down too. Is this normal? I had surgery on the same day, the 28th. I am experiencing the exact same things. Sounds like it is pretty normal. I think staying hydrated trumps Protein the first few days.
purz59 57 Posted November 2, 2015 I had surgery on 30th and worried that I'm not getting enough liquid, but overall I seem to be about normal. Everyone seems to have this problem in the beginning. My husband, who is 9 months out, also had this problem in the beginning. Best of luck to all of us new sleevers...
