What's the deal with ice?

Recommended Posts

When I was in the hospital I reached for some ice to put in my Water because it felt so good cold and the nurse said no no there's gas in the ice and that's not a good idea obviously because it can swell your stomach. So now I'm home and I wanted to put ice in my water. I'm not going to chew on the ice but is a bag of ice from the grocery store gassy? I had never heard that before.

I don't want to make ice at home unless I have to. Or skip altogether. :(

Ok, unless they are serving you dry ice at the hospital (which is made of carbon dioxide) then no, you aren't going to be gassed! I'm sorry this is just too funny I literally laughed until my eyes cried. I needed that!!! Thank you. Please don't worry about that. You may have misunderstood her? She may have said chewing ice could cause you to swallow air? I don't know, I wasn't there for the conversation. Congrats on being post-op!! :) @@Babbs

How strange. The first thing they gave me after I woke up after surgery was chipped ice to eat.

That's odd I was given ice chips in recovery and had an ice bucket in my room. It was an easy was to get Water slowly.

@@itstimealready I would just like to apologies for taking over your post with my silliness. You will have to forgive me. I'm on a liquid diet "for fun" and I think it may be affecting my brain a touch. I'm not usually this weird. I still stand by what I said about the ice though. It doesn't have gass in it that would affect you. You are newly operated on and you don't need that kind of ridiculous added stress over ice. Hope you have a fast recovery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
