HealthyRN 56 Posted October 31, 2015 I was a self pay on 10/13 at almost 14k, if I had to wait 6 months I would have because there would have been more long term skills and nutrition classes provided. My first appointment was on 9/10 and surgery one month later. I am doing good 17 days post op and my cash is now gone. 6 months is really not that long however it might be too long for you. Sit down with a paper and make your list pros and cons Good luck
Buh Bye 63 Posted October 31, 2015 I was self pay. It's a lot of $! I would wait. Just my two cents. Best of luck! ????
cindi gant 101 Posted October 31, 2015 If you have serious comorbidity or other health issues you should do it asap. I don't know what your situation is or how much weight you need or want to lose. I started out at 350 and in 6 months I lost 100 pounds. By then I was off of all BP meds and 1 diabetes med. My health has coninued to improve. I am now 22 months out from being sleeved and I am off the final 2 diabetes meds. I have lost 143 pounds and I am working on the final 40. Life is great. You have to do what is best for you. If surgery wipes out your bank account and physically you can afford to wait, then maybe rhat makes more sense. I am currently unemployed and my bank account is nowhere near what it should be. So write down the pros and cons of the options. If you can really afford it... GO FOR IT. Either way, surgery will change your life. I wish you well.
ojibway 203 Posted October 31, 2015 Thanks everyone! My wife and I made the decision to wait until the 6 months of a supervised diet are complete. For now I will keep prepping myself until surgery. Then my new life will begin.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted October 31, 2015 I had to wait about 5 extra months because I ended up being diagnosed with uterine cancer (hysterectomy cured me, thank goodness!). I had already done the 6 months supervised diet, so my whole journey is about a year. Really, it's no big deal in the great scheme of things. I've used this time to continue to make healthy changes and lose s little more weight. I'd save that money and take your wife on a nice vacation!!
