At 2 weeks post-op I lost 11 lbs.

This question is always a slippery slope.

1) There is no average weight loss post-op, some people even gain.

2) There are too many variables: starting weight, sex, health status, whether you had a pre-op diet or not, and age just to name a few. DON'T COMPARE

3) People lose at different rates. Some are slow and steady, some are fast out the gate and eventually slow down to 6 - 12 lbs a month.

4) Inevitably someone will read this and feel crappy about their own weight loss leading to a plethora of "I only loss..., what's wrong with me" post.

I am not trying to compare or make anyone feel bad, I was simply curious to see what the max amount someone has lost in the first two weeks.

Why does it matter as long as you hit goal? BTW - This post pops up about once a month so you could use the search feature and get loads of responses. For what it's worth I was one of those who had a big 2 week f/u loss. I rarely post it because it means nothing. All it does it make people expect to have a giant 2 week initial weight loss and think something is wrong with them if they don't.

I went into this expecting to lose like maybe 6 to 8 pounds max the first couple of weeks. So losing what I have has been somewhat of a shock to me. I don't personally know anyone who has had any weight loss surgery. my husband was asking what the most someone lost in 2 weeks was just outta curiosity Bc we both thought 17 was insane. I don't have anyone personally to ask since I don't know anyone with the surgery. Sorry if this post irritated or offended.

I'm not offended. That's not my point. It's nice that you are happily surprised. I was as well. That first weight loss just needs to be taken with a large grain of salt. My 2 wk f/u showed a weight loss of 26lbs. I was over the moon! However my 6 week appt I loss was 6lbs. Big difference. After that I settled in to losing between 10 - 12 lbs a month. Your body will find its own rhythm. A big weight loss out the gate means as much as a small one. Even no weight loss or even a gain at that 2 week appt. isn't a predictor of anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
