First real stall after 100 pounds down, any ideas?

At six months post, am 100# down, no real stalls so far until now. The rapid weight loss took a good 15-20% of my energy, but overall no problems. Now, four weeks with no weight loss, in some ways I did not mind much given the energy depletion, and energy is better. My Water is good, my food plan good, my blood and nutrient numbers very good... any ideas? Is this just normal body readjustment? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I am right there alongside you! I've been at 114lbs lost for almost a month (I'm 7 months out). Soo frustrating!

I'm going to up my exercise from walking to a couch to 5K - since my case manager gave me the okay to start incorporating jogging into my routine. Hopefully that kicks this stall.

We must keep going!!!!

I think what you are going through is very normal. Our bodies have to go through major adjustments. Remember, we are dismantling a structure that supports a tremendous amount of weight which takes a lot of resources.

If you are doing everything you are supposed to do, then I wouldn't worry. I don't know about you, but I am in this for the long haul and know it's going to take time.

If you really are concerned, why not make an appointment with your NUT?

I am there with you as well. Lost 95 and now I am stuck as well. Have not been able to walk as much as I would like because I am waiting to see a podiatrist about a bout I am having with plantar fasciitis, but I have been doing 6 miles a day on my stationary bike. I am going to try up the mileage maybe that will help

I had RNY surgery. After about 6 or 7 months, I transitioned from the "Weight Loss" phase into the "Maintenance" phase. My weight loss came to an end. My weight was stable within 2 pounds for the next 6 months. If you had RNY gastric bypass, you lose weight very quickly and then level off. Sleeve patients lose weight more slowly and experience weight loss over a period of a year or two.

Your daily Protein requirement is a combination of the Protein you consume from foods combined with the protein from supplements (Protein shakes, protein bars). If you focused on consuming high protein meals as your meal volume increased, you should be able to drop off some or all of your protein supplements and still meet your daily protein requirements. Doing this will drop off a few hundred calories and may kickstart your continued weight loss.

This is normal and your body is just resting.

My longest stall lasted 5 weeks and about drove me crazy. Things do slow down but if you continue the weight loss phase of the plan, track your nutrition and ultimately keep moving the stall will break.

I thought mine never would but it did and I dropped another 10lbs in the last 2 weeks. I am now 15 lbs from goal.

Be patient follow the plan and if the scale makes you crazy (like it did me during that time), stay off for a while.

All of a sudden my body just started dropping weight again.

You and I are in the exact same scenario! I am at 6 months post op and down 95 lbs. I was doing great, consistently losing 2 lbs a week and then it just stopped. I hadn't lost anything in 3 weeks. After trying more exercise, eating better etc. I saw nothing on the scale. I reached out to my NUT and she sent me a pamphlet that had "reasons you are having a stall" one of them was "not eating enough". I hadn't tracked my calories at all since surgery but everything had been going so great that I had not thought of it.

Well, she told me I needed to be at 1000 calories a day and I downloaded My Fitness Pal and tracked away. I was immediately shocked to know I was getting much less every day than that. So, for the last 3 days, I make sure to increase my calories and after an entire month of losing nothing at all, I am down 2 lbs again! So, eat up my friend. Life is weird. This journey is confusing sometimes, but reaching out on here is great and reach out to your NUT. Track your calories, you may be in the same boat as me. Good luck!

Weight loss stalls, no matter what type of surgery you have had, will happen. As another OP has shared, not enough calories will contribute, because your body, after the shock of your WLS, wants to hold on to all of the calories you allow.

Another reason is that over time, our systems become complacent. Try to shake up your type of exercise, the amount you exercise, and get out of the same routine. It just might wake your system up.

I believe stalls are caused by your body catching up to the new regieme of eating less, burning calories, etc...since surgery.

The way I deal with it is to change my routine, to get my body working in a different way. And for me that was easy...since I go to the gym often, getting out of a stall meant it was time to increase my workouts...whether that be more resistance, more weights, longer distance, increase the cardio....whatever it is you do, boost it up.

Always worked for me.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
