What did you pack in your bag to bring with you?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am having surgery on November 9th, and I was wondering what did you pack in your bag for that day.

I just don't want to go overboard lol

Thank you in advance ????

I went overboard. ????. Honestly you spend most of your time walking, sipping, sleeping, and being poked and prodded.

Mainstays are a comfy pillow, your phone with an extra long charger cord (mine didn't reach), a robe, toiletries, stretchy clothes to wear home, and that should do you.

Congrats!

I went way overboard when I packed my bag, I always do. However, my life saving items were: a small travel pillow to brace against my stomach, Chapstick, and biotene mouthwash( it is a moisturizing mouthwash and comes in handy the first 24 hours when your mouth is dry like a desert), extension cord for my cell phone charger.

My C-PAP

Some magazines

My iPhone with full charge and a remote battery (good for three recharges)

Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, huge bottle of hand sanitizer that I used constantly.

Baggy gym shorts, loose t-shirt (2), underwear

You are going to want a pillow for the ride home. Feels good to hold it against your abdomen.

Also have your post op pain med perscription filled and ready for dosing when you leave.

C-pap. Long extension cord (only outlet close was about five feet from bed) for chargers, slippers, shower shoes, brush/comb, moisturizing lip balm, stretchy clothes for ride home.

I wish I had a travel pillow for the ride home - great idea!

My surgery center gave out a pack that contained deodorant, disposable bath cloths, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, Shampoo, soap, etc...

Good luck with surgery - we're all rooting for you!

Great question! I'm having surgery on 11/16 and I'm bringing:

- A sleep eye mask and ear plugs in case it's bright/loud

- An extension cord plus 10 ft super fast phone charger (tested to make sure the USB plug inside the charger doesn't come loose easily - there's nothing worse than snagging the cord and realizing your charger is no longer inside the plug!)

- Mini can of Lysol since hospitals are filthy, plus hand sanitizer and antibacterial body wipes

- Fleece socks with traction

- Face wipes, moisturizer, and lip balm (you're so dry after surgery)

- Notepad, pen, and thank you notes for anyone who's especially helpful

- Little tray to keep everything organized and from falling off the table

- Loose clothes (including a skirt since some people have trouble putting on pants)

- Sperry shoes (comfy, flat, awesome traction)

- Warm shawl/wrap (rooms are cold and you'll have wires/tubes to work around)

I did a ton of research and list-making. :) Hope that helps!

Ditto I overpacked! What I did use was Chapstick, dry mouth spray, hospital provided me with toiletries and a comb(which was so needed) extension cord is a great idea. The pillow for the ride home was definitely a must have. I did have a robe because no matter how many blankets I asked for I was still cold and it helped when walking around the hospital

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
