How many carbs are allowed right after surgery?

Recommended Posts

How many carbs are allowed right after surgery? I've had about four Popsicles today and I haven't been able to find the no carb ones. these have about seven carbs each so that's 28 for the day but there surely must be a limit. Thanks.

That depends on what your surgeon and NUT tell you.

I only limited high sugar/high fructose corn Syrup and starches (potatoes, Pasta, rice, etc.). It is much more important that you get in your Protein and fluids right after surgery than to worry about carbs. sugar-free Popsicles are fine. You need the Fluid.< /p>

I can't find sugar free. These are " no sugar added", basically all fruit juice. I'm just so afraid of getting into bad habits. This is my last chance!

Ask your NUT--most of them don't allow the fruit juice popsicles because of the sugar (naturally-occurring though it may be). I didn't have trouble finding sugar-free popsicles in the grocery store, but I couldn't eat them because they had aspartame, which triggers Migraines for me. I bought Luigi's brand sugar-free Italian ice, which comes in little cups. Maybe check and see if you can find some of those.

Drop the frozen sugar and pick up an approved Protein shake.

Is there a reason you can think of that you are eating them ?

Now's the time to be done with old habits. The bikini in your avatar pic will be proper attire in six months. Get ready to rock it. :)

I found sugar free popsicles at Target. I think they did contain asapartame though so it may be something to watch for if you have trouble with aspartame. I know it can cause headaches for some people.

Ask your nutritionist. There's no right or wrong answer here, it depends on your program. My NUT never said anything about carbs ever. She only focuses on Protein and calories.

I was all organic prior - I know - how do you get fat on all organic? I've been having bad headaches since surgery and I bet it's from processed Protein Drinks Soups and aspartame which is in everything :((((

@@itstimealready - I was a fat vegetarian. I feel your pain. :D

I am allergic to most artificial sweeteners and stevia. I seem to be able to tolerate sucrolose (splenda) in small doses. The unflavored Protein is my go to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
