I had mine today. All I had to do was drink this barium drink while standing and the doctor was taking video and pictures while it was going down. Then they lowered the table and I was on my back doing different turns on both sides then on my stomach while the nurse giving me a straw to sip the drink. Lasted about 15 minutes. Wasn't bad at all. It was easy and pretty neat watching the liquid going to my stomach. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before test.

My EGD was drastically different than Brandylc's. I couldn't eat/drink for 6 hours prior. Got there, was called right in. Put on a gurney. IV started. Put a plastic tube between my teeth and within 5 seconds, I was out. Pretty sure I was awake within 20 minutes. Piece of cake. Nothing to drink. Fully asleep. No side effects afterwards.

I had mine on Monday...same experience as MOM26, It was not a big deal at all...it was an endoscopy. The only difference is it took 3 hours to get there, waiting on the doctor for four hours, having the test, and then another three hours home. Some doctors do the endoscopy and others do the barium test.

I have to fast after midnight and they'll be putting me under to do it. It takes 1 1/2 hrs to get there. Hopefully in and out.

This sounds more like you did a barium swallow...not an EGD...

EGD is done and I'm omw home ☺ went in, got an IV and all hooked up, they put me under and I woke up in the recovery room. I walked out of the hospital and my throat isn't even sore ☺ I'd say it couldn't have gone any better. Everyone was very nice, to me AND my family ☺

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
