Hello, all!

I had my surgery on Monday, 10/26. So, I am just a few days post-op. I'm having no pain from the surgery site etc. the pain I am experiencing is from the gas trapped in my side! The bariatric nurse said there are two types - the type in our gut and the type in our muscles - this seems to be the muscular type. Does anyone have any hints or tips on things you found helped? I'm about to die with this pain! I'm doubled over and cannot even walk upright it's so painful! Any help is appreciated!!

Heating pad and Gas-x. Try a yoga pose called "child's pose" - basically kneel down with your stomach pressed against your knews, bum up in the air and arms stretched out front. It will sometimes help release the gas. Walking does help, so take a pain pill and see if you can get past the discomfort enough to be able to walk. Otherwise, you just have to wait it out and it is awful! Take heart though. It should be gone in another day or tow.

I'm with you, had surgery Tuesday and these gas pains are killing me. Gas X did seem to help. I'm burping although I thought I would be passing it the other way. As long as it's coming out right?! Hoping your pains stop soon

Thanks Daisee and Tyty! And yes, as long as it comes out, I'm SO not picky!

Let me make you feel better .... I felt fine in the hospital and then got home and I kept thinking, man this gas is no joke. I mean the hydrocodone was not touching the pain. I finally called the on call doctor and got a different med (though that didn't help either) and after a few hours I realized mine was not just gas, I was passing a kidney stone. I very large one... I have a long history with kidney stones but man I sure didn't expect to pass one then. SMH... Can you imagine a worst time? :( I survived though and the gas pains still stuck with me but they weren't near as bad! LOL. The yoga / child's pose helped a lot but just be sure no one else is the in room with you ;)

Walk! Walk! Walk! I did take Gas-X but I think it had more of a placebo affect. But walking made things pass and little by little it finally went away.

I too had my surgery on Monday 10-26! The only pain I've experienced so far is just from the wound that they did the most work on. Left side, top. I've been able to control it with hydrocodone and walking. Tonight I took my first shower, not as relaxing as I thought it was going to be! Good luck!

You are all lucky, well, in a regard. Gas pains do indeed pass. Walk, walk, walk. What I meant by lucky was I developed what I refer to as Volcano Ass, I think you get the picture. Oh the gas came out, but it was hell around here for a few days. I saw in someones signature, "Never trust a fart" SOOOO true!!

This too shall pass, just keep chanting, lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
