Can someone on Synthroid or Levothyroxine show me your pill schedule?

Recommended Posts

This seems to be one of my biggest challenges and since I have to start taking the rest of my pills/vitamins next week, I just wanted to see what someone else was doing. Also are you taking chewables for Vitamins? pills?

My Endo usually wants me to wait up to 4 hours before I take a MV, Calcium or Iron near the thyroid med. He said 2 hours is doable, but he prefers 3 or best is 4. Only so many hours in the day to pop pills! :-) I try to take it now by 7 AM and get in a cup of tea with it for the H20 requirement. Then I wait 20 mins and take my PPI. That means at about 11 I would take first calcium and so on.

Any help would be great just to give me an idea.

Thanks!

I take my Synthroid at 7am and then couple hours later take my Vitamins, PPL, etc. I know you're only supposed to take a thyroid supplement with Water, and then nothing for 30 mins after that.

I work 6am-2pm as a nurse.... Since VSG, I have to allocate 30 minutes for Breakfast....but have to take my Levothyroxine an hour before I eat....

I get up @ 3am...immediately take my Levothyroxine...shower/ get dressed/ do my hair, etc.....I eat Breakfast from 4am-4:30am....and head out the door @ 5am.....(starting my first Fluid cycle during my commute in to work)

I take my calcium citrate around 8am....and take my Multivitamins either @ noon or when I get home.

Regardless of the Levothyroxine, the MVI's and Calcium have to be separated by 4 hours or they break down and cancel each other out, failing to be absorbed.

My husband shakes his head at my willingness to get up even earlier than I ever have in my life for this journey I'm invested in....but it is all worth it.

Of course, the thyroid med could alternatively, be taken @ bedtime, as we've got an empty stomach by the time we turn in for the night...

I take synthroid in the morning when I first wake up. I take 1 Multivitamin, sublingual B12 at lunch, other Multivitamin and Biotin at dinner. When I have to add Iron I will add it at dinner, and Calcium at lunch. But I dont start those or Fiber until after 6 weeks.

Good post! I'm still waiting to be scheduled for surgery but it's supposed to be in May.....But I've had a question regarding early post op and taking synthroid.....can you take the pill whole or do you have to crush it?....I'll be asking my surgeon of course but thought I'd ask the experienced. Thanks in advance

I take my Thyroxine ( same as Synthroid) when I first wake up, early in the morning, need to go to toilet etc.

I then fall asleep again. Not working shift-work for a change, helps.

This way when I get up later, I can have my Water, coffee, and 30 mins later my allowed food.

I take BN Multi chewable after Breakfast, never on empty stomach. B12 Spray.

Also, in the morning I sip 1/2 juice 1/2 Water that I add powdered vit C, Benefibre and at this stage Osmolax.

After "diner" (purees for now), I take Calcium/Magnesium combo, and Melatonin closer to bedtime. Also take my PPI at bedtime.

Also more Osmolax at night.

Only started Thyroxine January this year.

Hyper thyroid (Graves disease) diagnosed last May 2015.

Thyroid destroyed last August 2015 (Radioactive Iodine)

kmorri,

I take the full tablet. It is so small and goes down easily with Fluid. Did so in the hospital and now home post op.

However, yes, check it out with your surgeon.

Good luck! :)

Thank you! @krakow57....I was thinking they should be small enough....but it's hard to know what to expect. I'll see what the surgeon says. Thanks again!

Very welcome!

I had to have requested Panadeine Forte crushed in the hospital.

I had headaches, and the Endo (oxycodone?) wasn't helping my headaches.

I tried regular Multi vit at home later, as my chewable BN Multi hasn't arrived by then.

I don't recommend this. Even crushed it did not really agree with me, and tasted horrible!

Any tablet that is large and non-chewable is no good post op.

Hence B12 spray and chewable Multivitamin are the recommended ways of taking them.

Capsules are OK.

Thank goodness that my thyroid med is tiny and "slippery".

Good luck with your surgeries, kmorri :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
