3rd times the charm! Missouri anyone?

Recommended Posts

This is my 3rd time starting the process for surgery. The 1st time I found out I was pregnant with twins, 2nd time I found out about my husband cheating and divorced him losing my insurance. This time I've made it! I officially have my surgery date of November 16th. I'm excited and nervous. Anyone else live in Missouri? I'm having my surgery in Columbia Missouri and love closer to Springfield, would love to find a few people to become friends with that are going through the same thing.

Yeah! Congratulations on finally getting there. You are going to be so happy you did.

I will be thinking about you the morning of the 16th. I will be having surgery on my spine that morning as well. They are removing a neurostimulator and performing a laminectomy in the hopes of resolving severe back pain.

Good luck and best wishes for a safe surgery and speedy recovery!

Hello, I live in Eagle Rock Mo. on Table Rock Lake. 15 min. north of Eureka springs. I'm about 1 1/2 hrs from Springfield. I had my surgery Oct. 8th 3 weeks ago, & doing great!! I had my surgery In Fayetteville with the Roller weight loss clinic there!! Very happy I did it! and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be! I started the October list of Surgery's thread in pre -operation & there is a lot of good info on there, also good info in anyone having surgery in October thread. Best of luck to you, I don't think you will regret it!!

I had my surgery at Univ. of MO hospital in Columbia, MO. I went through the Univ. of Missouri Bariatric Clinic. Who is your surgeon? I had a good experience, however, I did skip out on my one year follow up. I was super busy and have had three different bariatricians throughout the pre op and post op process at that clinic. I have a PCP that I see regularly, so I didn't see the need to go to a newly hired stranger.

I am from California, MO. I am going through the process currently and will be sleeved at the university in Columbia, MO. For the ones that use the university: which doctor did you use??

I used Dr. De La Torre at Univ. of MO Columbia. I think you only have the option of using him or Dr. Scott. Both are good surgeons. Are you getting sleeve or bypass?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
