No more than 30 minutes per meal? How does that work?

Recommended Posts

Just took me an hour to eat 3 oz tuna and never got to the sweet potatoes I made. If Im allowed only 30 minutes to eat per meal and it take me 15 mins. to eat an oz, how do I get all my Protein in? Will I ever get to my veggies?

The purpose is that you should not graze all day. When you get a little farther out, it will be easier.

tuna is also dry and harder to process. Maybe a softer fish would be easier.

If you measure your food out and are eating a proper portion size and it takes longer than 30 minutes that isn't bad, not early on. The time limit is just there to try and stop you from eating all day.

When on full liquids, I could do 1/2c of Soup. Now that I'm full diet I find denser things need smaller portions. Yesterday I had 3 oz of chicken and 1/4c of spaghetti squash with sauce and cheese that I had to eat i two sittings. i'm also still working out what my sleeve can tolerate. I use My Fitness Pal to track my calories, Protein etc and I weigh or measure every bite

I can tell you what my program was but every program is different

But basically you start at 2 oz and work your way up. Since you were just sleeved this month, 2oz might be easier at this point.

The important thing is to always measure your food, so you aren't over eating or stressing your stomach.

Agree. I never went by the time rule, I went by measuring my portions. I would oftentimes eat less than my measured amount, but never more.

I'm six weeks out today and I'm barely up to 30 minutes. I drink my Protein Shake in the morning, and then try to space my meals out every three to four hours.... Some days I do well... other's I don't. But I find that with my Protein shake in the morning I'm not really hungry for HOURS after.

I asked my nurse practitioner about this very same issue as it can frequently take me an hour or so to finish a meal. She said that right now at 1 month out I should not worry about the 30 minute rule and just focus on getting my Protein in no matter how long it take me.

She also said that the 30 minute rule becomes more important at 6 months or more out when I will have an increased capacity as taking a long time to eat can lead to grazing and overeating. So for now I just take my time so food doesn't get stuck and so I can get enough Protein in. I also measure and track what I am consuming so I know how much I've had.

Great comments! I am going to stick to just getting my Protein and liquids down for now. Pretty I haven't eaten over 2 oz at a time, but will start measuring.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
