UHC is driving me crazy!

Recommended Posts

My surgeon didn't even submit so I don't really have anything to appeal. It was just a requirement from my initial visit. But that's great it's working out for you. I've only got 60 days left so I figure I'll just wait it out. Took so long to even get the authorization for the consult so I don't want to rock the boat.

I have UHC choice plus. Yes there was 6 month diet program but NO additional 6 month wait after that. Sounds like the person you are speaking to doesn't know what they're talking about. Have you called the bariatric resource center for UHC? They would have the best answer.

Cilepepp4...your weight along the way doesn't penalize you. You meet all of the criteria initially. That is what they go by for your surgery. If you lose weight during those 6 months, you still qualify. ....***btw, this is my 1st post-op posting! I'm in bed, barely 16 hours post- op--- my surgery went great. I was up walking last night & overall, pain has never gotten past a 5 on a 0-10 scale. Deep breath.. UHC will take care of you.

Well you just made me feel better, @@karen091866

I have been so worried about being denied because I dropped below my BMI of 40 for one month while on an appetite suppresent. I truly do hope that they go off of the information from my first visit which had me at a BMI of 41.

Congrats on your surgery! I hope your recovery is as quick and flawless as possible! We need to see pictures of the progress :)

I work as a surgical coordinator and have never seen a 6 month waiting period after approval before you can schedule. I have noticed that it's hard to get any sort of correct answer when calling UHC. If your really worried about it I would call the pre authorization department and ask for a nurse case manager. They will give you the most correct information.

Ohhh...thank you, @@Nora82 ! You just made me feel 10x better. I've talked to them probably 10 times now and have yet to get a reliable answer. There's no way I could work with insurance on a daily basis.

With that being said- do you think it will be an issue if one of my "weigh in" appointments is coupled with a sick appointment? All documentation is there, but I ended up needing to be seen a couple of days prior to my monthly visit due to another issue I was having and didn't want to have to ask off from work again, so we went ahead and covered my weight issue while I was in there. I honestly don't think it will make a difference as long as all documentation is provided. I just know that insurance can be finicky at times.. :\

I've never heard of doing everything, getting approved, and then waiting an additional 6 months (totaling a year) to have surgery. I'd double check that info. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
