Comfort food when sick

Recommended Posts

Before the surgery there were certain foods i would eat when i did not feel well, usually toast, mashed potatoes, rice, etc. Although i can eat these, i do not want to stall my weight loss. Has anyone found healthy alternatives?

Dice or grind it to a "rice" size or even finer.....add some Water and into the microwave. Good, good stuff.

I plan on buying one the vegetable spiralizers as soon as I can figure out which one to get. Microwave steamed with some stewed tomatoes over them for sauce and some Italian seasoning and it's sounding like a meal.

I'm sure I'll discover many new ways to cook eggs, too.

I break up the cauliflower into small pieces, toss it with a touch of olive oil and salt and roast it until its tender. Then It goes into a blender with a splash of either Water or broth and the cheese

I made a "muffin" with eggs. I beat some eggs with some diced bell peppers (and a splash of hot sauce) and poured it into some non stick muffin tins and baked it until it was set

How about a cup of warm chicken Bouillon. It is like having wonderful chicken Soup but only has 10 calories. I use Knorr brand and it is yummy.

I also sometimes buy some cup o noodles. I like the spicy ones. I add the hot Water and let it sit then scoop out most of the noodles. The broth is yummy, though high in sodium

I like black rice. It actually has a decent amount of Protein in it. I make a stir fry with it. I also like baked or roasted sweet potatoes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
