First Restaurant Dinner Out?

Recommended Posts

My first restaurant post-op was about 3 weeks out, I went to a Japanese restaurant that my family likes, and I got miso Soup. I took out the seaweed and tofu, and just drank the broth. It was kinda funny, because we have been frequenting the place for years, and the waitresses know exactly what we want (we are creatures of habit), so they were completely surprised when we didn't order the normal stuff. And they couldn't believe I was just eating Soup.< /p>

At 4 weeks I was cleared for soft foods, and we went back again and I had 3 pieces of salmon sashimi (no rice). At 6 weeks out I was cleared for solid foods so I went to Outback and had a kids plate of steak medallions, and had about half of it. Had to eat it really slow, and cut it into tiny pieces, but it was great to be able to eat some steak.

At about 3 1/2 weeks out I ate grilled fish (about 1/6th of what was served and took the rest home to have multiple additional meals. I find that fish goes down the easiest (at least early on after when you start eating again). When I eat beef of any sort, it doesn't seem to digest as well but I am only 6 weeks post-op so not sure if that gets better or not. In getting in my Protein, I don't really have any room left for anything else so not much experience with other types of foods at restaurants yet.

Chinese restaurant and had just the broth from egg flower Soup. I was very cautious about not eating any chunks. It went pretty well. The second to Mexican restaurant. Had refried Beans with a tiny bit of cheese. Since my surgery I have been out a few times a week with different friends or family members and had all types of clear Soups.

I have yet to venture out and order fish or chicken. Maybe after my one month mark I will try.
