Now comes the wait!

Recommended Posts

I completed my 7 month weight management program yesterday and forwarded all clinical to my coordinator this morning. She has already submitted to my primary insurance-which we are expecting it to deny right away. Then she will fax everything to my secondary BCBS AL and hopefully have a approval within 30 days. Surgery is expected to be January or February, at first I was mad that it would be another 3-4 months before surgery. Now I am trying to be as positive as I can be, it will give me a few more months to ensure that I am in the right mind set for this lifestyle change. I am 95% certain that I am. The other 5% is just being scared of the unknown. I am ready to be healthy, happy, and hot! Okay maybe not hot but maybe a little more cute than I am now lol...

I know that feeling of the wait. They can not submit my paper work to BCBS AL till Nov 13th! It feels like forever away. I did call and talk to a lady a BCBS AL about the approval time frame and she told me they have to tell you 30 days, but should not be more than 7 or 14 at the most. I'm hoping for surgery around Dec at least. Good luck keep me posted.

I have BCBS AL and was approved instantly online. Hopefully they won't take the full 30 days.

Thank you, Chelle Bean! Good Luck to you as well. Hopefully time will fly and you will have your approval in no time.

Southern Sleever- My primary and secondary are both BCBS AL but for some reason when my primary policy denies they have to fax in the information to the secondary along with the denial letter.

Are/Did either of you use a surgeon from the Birmingham area?

Hot is definitely on the table, so don't rule it out. ????

Kudos to you for adopting a positive attitude. Your surgery date will be here before you know it. Congrats!

You have a good attitude seeing the wait as a time to reflect and prepare. You will smash it!

Good morning,

We have created a group on Facebook called “VSG Mentors – Paying It Forward. We are a small group of both male and females who all met here on Bariatric Pal and had our surgeries in December 2014. We have supported each other through our journey, and have now decided to share our ups and downs with others who are just beginning their journey.

Our group is a Facebook “Secret” group which means that no one other than the people in the group can see your posts, and no one can even find the group if they were to do a search. This way you are guaranteed to be complete concealed from anyone not in the group.

So, if you are looking for a small group to join of caring people who have already been through what you are about to experience, please send me a private message, along with your email address, and I will send you an invitation to our secret group.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
