Help, what week am I on?

Recommended Posts

Yes, I'm slow. Sorry.

I had surgery September 28th. So, was week on the week of the 28th?

September 29th- Week 1

October 6th- Week 2

October 13th- Week 3

October 20th- Week 4

October 27th- Week 5?

I'm confused because my book says Week 1: Clear liquid. Week 2: full liquid: Weeks 3 and 4: soft foods Weeks 5 and 6: Start introducing a regular diet. So does that mean start this week because it's starting week 5, even though I'm only 4 full weeks out?

I'm scared to death about starting real foods. I'm craving veggies so much but so scared to eat them!

You have it right...in fact, Week 1 began, right when you were wheeled out of the OR. So, for example, Week 5 begins on the day of the 4 week anniversary. That's a pretty rapid progression that you are describing, but if you have your surgeon's blessings, you have interpreted it correctly and should start trying real foods. Stick to the recommended portion sizes and if something doesn't feel right, shelf it for a week or two and then give it another shot. I tried eggs the first day of week 3 and couldn't handle them at all...but by the first day of week 5, I was eating them with gusto and had to cap myself to avoid overeating. Good luck!

Yes, you are correct. I was also sleeved on 9/28 and this is week 5 for me. I'm introducing regular food as well. Good luck!

Thank you! So what new foods are you introducing this week?

I'm in Texas, too. :) Which part of the state were you sleeved in?

I live in Fort Worth and my surgery was done there as well. Where are you from?

Yesterday, I ate string cheese and turkey. I didn't have any problems. I made sure that I chewed the turkey alot.

The last two weeks, I was able to add sweet potatoes, steamed vegetables, and eggs. I am loving the sweet potatoes and eggs. I can only eat a small slice of a sweet potato but it is delicious. I haven't tried the veggies yet because I am always to full to get to them.

Take a deep breath - you are doing good. Do not be scared - as long as you take the food change slow and if it hurts, stop policy... all will work out.

As for veggies... try zucchini cooked (it's good and soft) or maybe some squash (perfect time of year).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
