Patín after eating too fast

Recommended Posts

Hello al!

I'm 3 weeks post op today and I have had a great recovery! My only problem is having stomach pain (like gas trying To go up) when eating too fast. Does this pass ever?

Cheers from Costa Rica, Pura vida!

This.

Just a new habit you have to get used to. It's better for you anyways, so you'll appreciate it once you get used to it.

What they said! :D Try this (it is the only thing that helped me) - set a timer on your phone for 1 1/2 minutes and only take a bite when that timer goes off. Don't eat past 30 minutes either. Good luck! You will get used to it! (Though at 4 1/2 months, I still deal with it occasionally if I am not careful!)

Eating too fast is my ongoing challenge at 5 months. This is the only time my new tummy hurts (well and when I take vitamins). I also find it especially get restricted very quickly with gas when it is straight Protein like steak, chicken salad, etc.

Hey, small world. My wife and her family are from Costa Rica! Welcome to the forum. In time, you will just learn to slow down eating. There isn't much you can do to get around that in the beginning. After a few months, you can start eating normal again, but you will run the risk of eating too much too quickly. Then comes the vomiting. Just do your best to eat as slowly as possible.

Yes. If you eat too fast and feel uncomfy then your sleeve is working. Put your fork down between bites. I still struggle with it from time to time.

Thank you all for your feedback! I don't love the slow movement, but I'll try!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
