Advice wanted...Please help me prepare! Band to Sleeve on Nov. 20th.

Recommended Posts

Alright, I am having my lap band to gastric sleeve revision on November 20th. I would love if those that have already had the revision or the gastric sleeve to help me out.

What do I need to do/purchase in order to be fully prepared?

What Vitamins do I need?

What Protein shakes/powders, etc?

What items should I take to the hospital?

What other advice would you give me?

What did you wish someone had told you before you had surgery?

Any and all help, opinions, and advice are welcomed.

I was sleeved one week ago today. I know every doctors requirements are different but I need to take A daily Multivitamin, 1200 mg calcium citrate, Vitamin D3 and vitamin B 12.< /p>

Everything is either liquid or chewable. They told me no more softgels, ever again. I started with all the Vitamins after I got home... Didn't need to bring anything to the hospital.

Something I wish I would have known prior to surgery? 1) pain meds were only necessary for 24 hours and 2) One week postop, and I feel completely back to normal :-)

Good luck!!

I had a two-week liver reduction diet which was pretty much no carbs and high Protein. Then two days of Clear Liquids which was pure torture :-)

To me, that was the hardest part.... Those two days.

I'm unable to give any advice about sleeve surgery, but have a great need to say that your final question is the wisest of all. It tells me you'll be a champion.

@@Fatty McFatster, it's easy to say, but true: You can do anything for two days.

Best wishes to you.

  • chap stick for dry mouth
  • a pair of comfortable shorts to get rid of the hospital gown so that you walk without being an exhibitionist.
slip on shoes (slippers), try not to get anything of the flip flops. Won't help with walking. keep a pillow in the car that will get you home. Helps incisions with bumps on the road. Mouth wash, tooth paste, tooth brush. Sometimes is not included in care package or are flimsy. an extra pair of under garments a very loose pull over shirt, replace the gown. bottle of sugar free Water Enhancer or pkg. of crystal light. You won't be able to drink anything after surgery until you are cleared the next day, but, man, flavored water tastes good. The sooner you get up and walk, the better you will feel the next day. Sip your drinks

Hi Fatty, what made you take the step band to sleeve? I had my band out in May 2015 and I am gaining weight like crazy but I just can't make my mind up to go the surgery route again.

Gaining weight like crazy (due to complications with the band forcing it to be emptied) is exactly the reason I am having the band to sleeve revision surgery. I know that I can't do it alone (or I wouldn't have gained back so much weight), so having the sleeve as a tool to help me is the best option to meet my weight loss goals.

Surgery isn't for everyone, but it is definitely something to consider.

Good luck to you no matter what route you take!

I'm six days out, and the best piece of advice I can give you is to have people around you who will really help support you. My husband is a god among men who is my rock. I could not do this without him, and he has been amazing. I have several friends who have been through this and are checking up on me as well, cheering me on.

Good luck to you. You can do this. :)

This is really helpful! I'm getting my band out 2/2/6 and getting the sleeve (all in one if possible).

I'm scouring the internets for a good, chewable Multivitamin. Mostly Amazon. Having some trouble finding one that sounds like it will be good. I was told NO gummies (which is what I'd been taking). Soooo. Any suggestions from you lot? I know they sell some at the doctor's office, but they are a bit pricey, so looking at other options.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
