faithmd 14 Posted July 17, 2007 Hello, I haven't done them yet, and I have read quite a few threads where folks quite a while out from banding have said they have never done either one, or have only done it once or twice. Here's a bunch of links that I thought might be helpful: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f76/what-sliming-29072/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/pbs-sliming-17625/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f15/how-long-does-sliming-last-18903/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/pbs-slime-inevitable-19383/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/what-do-you-do-if-you-slime-get-stuck-12552/
momlambert 77 Posted July 17, 2007 Hi I am newly banded as of June 5th and wondering what it means to slime and pb ? I hear those terms used alot . I have had only one fill so maybe I havent reached the point of experiencing these to understand what they are. Just curious ?Does everone who has fills get them ? Thanks Kim:) Check this out: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/abbreviations-what-they-mean-7959/ Hopefully that will help. Sliming happens before the productive burp--it's like Water in your mouth when you burp. I had my first pb tonight and it was really painful. I had to excuse myself to get to the bathroom and then kept burping until finally food came up with the burp. Yuck. My dr. told me before I was banded that I would have pb's and that there was no way to prevent them because you have to learn about your band--but I know of several people on this forum who have never pb'd and have had their bands for a year or so. They are very unusual but it must be possible. Other people pb several times a day, which is very scary because pb-ing is believed to cause slippage of the band. Hope that answers your questions. I've had 5 fills and am just starting to feel restriction--apparently I have more restriction than I thought since I pb'd on just a few bites of stuffed peppers and au gratin potatoes. Live and learn! Good luck!
fabfatgrl 10 Posted July 17, 2007 Sliming is also called stomach snot... which is actually a more accurate description. (Yuck, though.) When something gets stuck, your body wants to get it unstuck. It produces a clear slimey liquid (looks like clear mucus) to try and lube things and get it through. Usually, you'll produce a lot of this... and it will be part of your PB (productive burp... vomiting... regurgitation.) Sometimes if things are really stuck... nothing gets through... so you'll end up PBing your own saliva and sliming a lot... until it makes its way through. PBing means Productive Burping. The reason most Bandsters call it that over vomiting is that it's not like the vomiting you knew before Banding. Usually, one goes to the toilet (or holds up a bag) and literally coughs... and with very little effort, it all comes back up. Sometimes, it comes up without any effort... which is why a lot of new Bandsters in my day used to keep baggies in their purse/car. I don't know if I experienced PBing until I had significant restriction... it's been so long that I don't remember. I doubt I experienced it immediately post-op or after my first fill. I have nothing in my Band... yet I still can PB on occasion, which sucks. Usually has to do with hormones affecting my Band.
