Revisions...Lap to RYN

Recommended Posts

Hi....brand new to this site. I'm a 2007 lap bander and due to many issues and working towards a revision. All tests, appointments done. NOW the insurance waiting game begins. I was wondering if there is a place for people like me (revisions) or if I would come here? Also is there any one like me out there? How did you do? Glad to be amongst my peeps again.

I'm not sure about how that works but I do know two of my friends about the same time as you did the lap band and unfortunately did not work they lost 70 gained it all back and my doctor won't even perform lap band anymore because he says it clearly does not work for 90 percent of patients... so they also are looking into it. Once I find some information out I will definitely let you know!!

Aug 31st I had revision from band to rny. So far it's been an easy transition. I don't appear to be losing weight as fast as I thought I would. But I feel great, and have no regrets.

I was supposed to have a revision done yesterday but they had to abort my RNY surgery after removal of the bags because it eroded my stomach so now I have to wait 3 months, hope I heal and hope the insurance will cover another go at it before I can get the bypass. I had my band placed in 2010 and gained all 80 pounds I lost right back.

Hi, I had revision from lap band to RNY in October of 2014. I hated the band and so far RNY is way better. I hope all goes well with your revision as well. I'm sure it will be much better than the band.

There are far too many of us from "band to bypass"

I did have the band but had it removed 5 yrs ago because for 3 years my body was rejecting it.

I had RNY a little over 5 weeks ago and doing great.

No regrets. (Well, except not going with the bypass from the very get-go)

Good luck to you and hope all goes well!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
