2 weeks Pre-op any tips or suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I am April. I'm 28 years old & 2 weeks out from surgery for the gastric sleeve. My surgery date is November 9th, with Dr. Oldham in Louisville, KY. His office has been amazing through this journey so far. Today is day #1 of the pre-op liquid diet. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions going into surgery or post-op? Also recommendations for protien supplement? I have been considering the whey liquid Protien Shots...

Thank you in advance! ????

Congratulations and best of luck with your surgery.

I was sleeved April 20 with Dr. Weiss at Georgetown and couldn't be happier with my surgery, my recovery, and my progress so far.

I recommend you do your best to follow all of your instructions both in and out of the hospital. Be willing to try anything even if you think you can't. Getting up and walking as soon as you can is critical.

Make sure you get in all of your Protein and fluids as soon as possible, follow your program, and walk. You will feel much better faster.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Hey April. I'm Lisa. Also having surgery Nov 9th - in NYC. Started my 2-week liquid diet today. For Breakfast, I had 1c almond milk, 15 ice cubes, 2TBSP PB2 powder, 1/2 banana and 1 packet of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate Protein powder -- blended into a smoothie. I've actually been having these daily for about 5 weeks now. My pre-surgery diet is full liquids - I know some others get to have a light meal on theirs. I made a worksheet last night with my day's dietary plan (2 Unjury shakes, 1 Premier Protein shake, a yogurt and sugar free Jello for snacks). A written plan works best for me so it's all ironed out before my day starts. Just need to remind myself to drink Water. Never been a big Water drinker, but I'll learn.

Good luck!!

I am so glad you are happy with everything. That is encouraging.

I fully intend on doing everything they say. My surgeon said not to expect much sleep the night of surgery, because a nurse will come & get me walking every hour or two. He also recommended once home to walk everytime a commercial comes on for the full length of that, because it will add up quickly. I am more excited than anything, just want to do everything right.

Wishing you continued success!!

Keep me posted on how it's going.

What a great tip to walk when the commercials come on!! It's pretty nice here in NY - and we have 3 dogs - so waling them 3x's a day will get me in another 3 miles.

Congratulations to you both with regards to your surgery!

I was exhausted for weeks after the surgery but was lucky that my youngest son walked the dog every day until I was four weeks out.

How to get through the liver cleanse when you are tempted to cheat!!

Clean your teeth

Drink more water/tea/ etc. (whatever is allowed)

Look at a photo you hate of yourself at your biggest and visualise being healthy and slimmer and remember why you are doing this.

Get a buddy and ask for/give support

Remember this too will pass!

sleep more/Keep busy/Clean the house from top to bottom/Do all the laundry/prepare for surgery

Research post op eating plans, educate yourself why each stage is important including the cleanse

Treat yourself to a haircut/nails done

Cross each day off the calendar, countdown to surgery day

Get some fresh air, walk, visit family and friends.

Ask for support and help, we have all been there. You CAN do it :D

Let us all know how you are getting on :)

You are going through the hardest part now......grind it out and then it gets way easier once you've had surgery.

Get a variety of Protein powder and pre-mixed Protein shakes. Having options is a good thing and will help you get through that boring part.

Just grind out the days ahead.....stick to the plan and you'll be ready for surgery, recovery and the rest of your new life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
