littleone83 5 Posted October 26, 2015 Ok so I started my journey back in August. I was given a big book explaining the procedure, the preop diet, the post op diet stages and an assortment of other useful information as well as a consultant and dietitian I could email with any questions and I did my own research as well... In general we as wls patients are Encouraged to ask questions before surgery so why am I still seeing people on forums asking about Protein Bars at two weeks out or fruit at three weeks.. Was it not clear that u would be on a liquid or puréed diet this early on. Or my personal favorite I'm three weeks out I had half a hotdog and a chocolate milk I feel so sick, really I wonder why.... I'm 4 months out and I've been gaining this week, (reply stop weighing yourself) I was unaware you could gain weight just from stepping on a scale there should be warning on that thing "Warning may cause weigh gain..but seriously her issue was that she was gaining not weighing herself at that point would to me only make the situation worse if she changed nothing. perforce 243 Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) While I understand the frustrations of seeing a question that to you may have an obvious answer, I would say that not everybody may be fortunate enough to have the same amount of prep as you, particularly if they're self funding somewhere other than the US. Also, the post-op diet is not standardized across the board, so instructions may vary hugely (hence some of the confusion). I haven't seen the post about the hot dog and milk, but I would guess from the poster's perspective a hot dog would be Protein and chocolate milk wouldn't/shouldn't affect their body any more harshly than Protein shakes? Yes, sometimes things that seem like they should be obvious common sense do get put out there, but given that you're right, we all are told to ask questions, perhaps try and be more patient with those questions that aren't as obvious to everyone, and utilize the back button when you can't be. VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted October 26, 2015 In every area of life, some people get their s**t together, take personal responsibility for their own success, and push on through. There's a difference between those who need support and want support vs. those who are just too fuckin' lazy to do the work necessary to be successful. Answering lazy people's WLS questions is not my life's work. I'm not paid to do it. I don't want to do it. I'm here because this is a community where I can find like-minded people who want to lose weight through WLS, keep it off, get healthier, and stay healthier. I find good information here, some people whose online company I enjoy, and have numerous epiphanies about things I had no idea were issues for me. That's why I'm here. Champ715 207 Posted October 26, 2015 Not everyone is provided with the same amount of pre-op information that you were. I've seen quite a few posts from people who had surgery outside of the US and didn't have a nutritionist or even help from their surgical team once they got back to the states. There are also a lot of people who may be self-pay and don't have all those resources you had. I have had a great team but unfortunately, the packet of information they gave me was pretty flimsy. I'm only four weeks post op and I have had to call my doctor at least 6 times with questions that weren't answered anywhere in my paperwork. Not everyone will be fortunate enough to have a doctor they can call so easily so this forum may be their only resource.
