I was banded 6 weeks ago. My first fill was supposed to be today but got postponed until next monday. I think the radiologist went on vacation!!LOL! Anyway, I can pretty much eat anything now except bread which gives me that stuck feeling. The scarey thing is that at times, it doesnt weven seem like I have a band!! Sometimes I can eat more and sometimes less. I lost 20 pounds post op and have managed to keep it off but by the skin of my teeth!! Anyone experience this feeling before their first fill? Will it feel so much different after the fill? I hope so!:help:

The first part of the banding process is healing. You will lose some weight after the surgery due to the restriction on diet but mainly it's for your stomach to heal. Most people don't feel like they are restricted until after they are filled.

I had very little restriction after the first fill, but each case is different..you may be really restricted....I have had my second fill and I am way more restricted...I can't even eat a half a cup per meal..

I just got my first fill and am trying to keep in mind that the band is the tool not the fix, so trying to eat right and keep my portions at a reasonable amount is what I do. Like for lunch I can eat a sandwich and a few baked chips but I always stop if I feel full because I cant stand the too full feeling. I havent had the bread problem.

I am, now dont get me wrong I buy the light oatmeal bread and cut the crust off (never liked crust) then I either have a little chicken salad or two pieces of turkey and some light mayo, I do not snack. I have 1cc in my band, I have lost 18.5 lbs and just went under 200. What I have been doing is exercise and making good choices. My surgeon said, "thats what this is about, giving you the tool you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle." If I loss 2 pounds a week I'm happy, kinda scared about loss skin and stuff

:help:Hi everyone. I just started the process for banding. I'm nervous and excited and a little concerned about the fill process and excess skin that people get after the gastric bypass. Can anyone tell me just how uncomfortable/painful the fill is? I've heard it's not painful but I've seen some videos and it looked and sounded like it wasn't very pleasant. Also, has excess skin been a problem for anyone? I'm still planning to do it anyway but I just want to be prepared in advance.

Joanne,

What was your weight prior to surgery? I was banded 1 week ago and was 214lbs at the time of the banding. No offense to anyone, but I'm trying to be realistic about my future weight loss (hopefully 90-100lbs). But you sound like you're around my size. Just looking for some insight.

Elizabeth

Hey deb24,

I was banded on June 19th & hopefully will have my first fill on Monday July 23rd. I was not put on any post op diet, however, did manage to lose about 4 pounds. But since being banded I have lost only 13 pounds and it has been tough keeping this off. I can eat pretty much anything and way way toooooo much of it. My first fill appt. was supposed to have been tomorrow but for whatever reason, they had to reschedule me. My doc & yours must have went on vacation together, LOL. Oh well, hopefully things will start to get much better for the both of us after we start receiving our fills.

Good Luck

Tgirl

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
