Fist week weight loss

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 days post -op and I'm averaging a loss of 3lbs PER DAY. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Sounds good to me. It will slow eventually. Ride the wave. I dont know how much you weigh though. You might want to start a ticker so we can all see your progress.

In the first week's after surgery your body is going through so many changes, I recommend staying off the scale. You will be weighed at your follow-up doctor's appointments which is often enough.

Yippee! Don't worry, be happy!

It will slow to 1-3 per week soon. Take it while you can :)

Enjoy it while you can, but understand that it will slow, it is just not sustainable. Don't get depressed when the slow down happens. I am 2+ weeks out (sleeved 10/7) and have a lower BMI and it is about 1 lb. every 2 days or so. I weigh daily and it's a bad habit I know, but I "think" I can handle it and the inevitable stalls that are coming.

Congrats and good luck on your journey.

Thank you everyone! I've taken your advise and added a body weight ticker. I will work on not jumping on the scale everything I go into the bathroom because that's was hats happeneing right now. And, I can see why it's probably not the best Idea

I lost 18 pounds my first week, I'm now 3 months post op and it has definetlty slowed down! Your body is going through a big change, don't expect much your second or third week but eventually it will all even out to a steady pace.

It seems to be a fairly common trend in those first couple weeks.

Make sure you don't forget to get your Protein in.

It is understandable to jump on the scale frequently.

I weigh every morning since surgery. 12 days & 18 pounds. It's a crazy ride.

I too am a daily weigher. I am 2 months out and have had 3 stalls already. The weight comes off just slower the further out you get. As long as it comes off I'm happy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
