One more day!

Recommended Posts

Oct. 26th is my day! I'm scared, I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm happy, I'm emotional and I am so looking forward to waking up after surgery. I'm probably overly prepared, but better that than having surprises right? The bypass worries me less than the removal of the failed lap band. I keep having a recurrent dream that I wake up from surgery and all that was done was remove the lap band. Anyway, I hope and pray this is the answer to all my prayers of getting helth again for myself and my family. My father died when he was my age, and I don't want my son to have to live without his Dad too, and my Grandkids as well. So the hard part of the journey for me I think is nearly over, after surgery I know I will be great!

I can't wait for Monday morning. I know I'm going to have a lot of work to do after surgery, but I am really ready to get the surgery past me. I'm all on edge, can't even find something on tv to amuse me. I guess I have about 31 hours until we start! What a countdown!

@@retzlpa I hope your surgery goes very smoothly and that you are delighted with your new pouch! I didn't realize you had a failed Lapband. I have two friends that had really bad fails with theirs and one friend with sleeve who now has reflux really bad. He's thinking about revision to rny. I guess I'm glad my doctor chose that for me. I was leaning to sleeve but said it was his decision and he said RNY.

Thank you! Way back in 2010 I had asked for the bypass and was told the lap band was so much better and easier. They told me once I hit the sweet spot I'd be in a whole new world of losing weight. After that it was pure chaos

I am so happy and excited for you. Best wishes for a safe surgery and speedy recovery!

P.S. I am so happy that I went with RNY! I would not change it for anything. You will do well given how prepared you are.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
