Why cream soups over light soups

Recommended Posts

My paperwork from my NUT says fat free cream Soups. Couldn't find any of those in local stores, but found 98% fat free regular soups. Looking online, other than the fat content, it appears the non-creamed soups are similar to creamed ones.

What's the reason creamed soups are stressed? I cannot eat many of them (food allergies) - but found a non-cream one I can tolerate.

Any insight is greatly appreciated. I start my 2 week liquid diet on Monday.

Thanks!

It could be because the first couple of days they stress clear broths/soups, and the next stage is liquids, but it can be clear AND creamy (non-clear) Soups?

Check with your NUT but I found out that creamed Soups did not necessarily mean soups made with cream but any Soup especially bean soups blended to a creamy texture and then strained to remove any chunks. This opened up more choices than just the normal creamed soups. Good luck with your surgery.

It may be also a matter of avoiding tomato-based Soups initially because of the acidity, which can irritate your healing stomach.

That puzzled me as well. I just pureed anything that sounded good. Cream of chicken, Cream of Mushroom, Bean and Bacon were my faves (for one week). I don't understand the fat-free/cream designation I guess... it seems like an oxymoron! I just did Soup and tons of VitaminWaterZero, teas, Water, etc... and made it to Surgery day.

I think it just means thicker Soups, not necessarily ones made with cream, Progresso soups are often on sale now and they have a ton of amazing flavors to choose from. I find that one can is three meals for me

It appears you've gotten several good responses. but honestly the best advice will come from your NUT. Speaking as someone with multiple allergies, meetings with your NUT need to be a give and take. Ask questions and try to brainstorm work arounds with her. Anything we say is little more than guessing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
