Anyone else have issues with water?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 14th and I've noticed that Water is like my worst enemy right now. I can have gatorade, teas, popsicles, (all sugar free of course) and I can eat oatmeal and yogurt with no issues but the second I try to introduce water it lands like a rock in my stomach and hurts for about 5 minutes. I used to love water and I have tried room temp rather than cold but nothing works. Anyone else having this problem? Or better yet did anyone have this issue and figure out a way to overcome it? I'm going crazy because I felt like water was my break from all the sweet tasting stuff and now I don't even have that.

I have had trouble with Water from the very beginning. Pre op water was my favorite drink. Post op I felt like it was too heavy for my stomach and it also gave me a slight uncomfortable feeling in my chest and stomach. I drank propel. It was a lot of trial and error until I found a Fluid I could tolerate.

I mourned the loss my my plain water????

I am 16 months post op and just this week I can tolerate water with some flavor drops added to it. Can't drink it as fast as the propel, but I like it better.

You are not crazy that's for sure!! It happens to some of us.

What you are a experiencing is very common.

Keep trying different temperatures, infusions and enhancers. For me, it took a few months, but drinking plain Water slowly became easier.

At six months post-op, Water is easier but I still drink a lot of water with Mio drops.

Same problem with regular Water. I don't know why regular water does not sit well with me in my pouch. I have to flavor it with Crystal light with the sunny with some drops to make it taste better. Try iced tea, warm, cold. Etc.

Yup. Couldn't stand plain Water before surgery, and can't stand it now. However, there's nothing magical about plain, unflavored Water over water flavored with Mio drops, Torani sugar free, or herbal tea. Anyone who insists there is a difference and that you need to be drinking plain water is being silly and unhelpful. (And yes, I know some NUTs say it, but there are times when NUTs say stuff that is based on their own ideas or prevailing myths, and not factually true.)

So, yes, many people don't like the taste/feel of plain water after surgery. Use whatever healthy method you need to get it to a state that you enjoy it, so you get in enough. I use a combination of hot liquids like ginger/lemon tea, cold Torani-flavored, Mio drops, and just mixing my Syntrax nectar with extra water.

Thank god for this post - thought I was going nuts! Managed well chilled Water flavoured with fresh lemons over the weekend, and hot water and fresh mint leaves the last few weeks, but plain water....bleugh. Loved it pre-op!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
