My fitness pal portion sizes ...

Recommended Posts

I am having a difficult time finding the proper portion sizes to add to my fitness pal food diary. It does not allow me for most foods to add a tsp or tbsp or 1/4 cup etc... I just can't get accurate info. It just isn't set up for WLS patients ? We eat so little and in my opinion, it should begin at a tsp. Or maybe I'm just a big dummy and can't figure it out ?? Haha

You can adjust your entries to a fraction of a serving size. So if, for example, the serving size is listed as 1 cup, and you eat 1/4 of a cup, you can list 1/4 as your number of servings. You may need to look up conversions or do some math. So if you only have a tablespoon of a food, but the serving size is 1 cup, you have to figure out that there are 16 tablespoons in a cup, so you had 1/16 of a serving. MFP only goes down to 1/8 for fractions, but you can switch to decimal mode and enter in smaller amounts.

If you click on the portion size it usually gives you multiple portion sizes (cups, oz, grams etc).

It does give many portions sizes/choices, just none that would apply to a WLS patient. I cannot possibly eat a cup or 1/2 cup of certain foods. I would love the option to pick and choose each portion size is all. Oh well ????

Well, My Fitness Pal wasn't designed for WLS patients. There is a tracking app called "Baritastic" that's intended for WLS patients. I don't know what its interface is like, but I'd guess it may have different portion size options.

Use decimals! If the serving is listed as half a cup and I only measured out 2 oz for my meal... I would enter .5 so it is just half the half cup... or a fourth of a cup. It works really well on full cup portions... just use .25 or what fits. I have even opened a separate tab to use a conversion calculator ; )

Change your stuff to ounces that is what I have done. I am a nurse so conversions where mindless but write a few down from tbs to ounces or ml. I have not had an issue finding anything this way.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
