Going Back to Work

Recommended Posts

I have a desk job.

Sleeved on a Saturday, home from hospital on Monday (nausea issues kept me an extra night), back at work that same week on Thursday. I worked a few hours (payroll for staff was due), then went in every day after that, leaving an hour or so early for about a week.

I would have gone nuts if I took 4 weeks off.

I agree sharon1964! My surgery will be on a Friday. Obviously taking that day & the following Monday. Going back tues & wed - then off thurs & fri for Christmas - back in full swing the week after. No way I could stay home. I work in a Drs office/hospital so, feel I will be safe even if something did go horribly wrong

It is good to hear that some are planning to go back or did go back to work at 1 week or so. I'm a counselor and adjunct professor and just got offered a cancellation date Nov 25. I would like to be able to go to my last day of class Dec 2 (a week later).

I had 4 weeks off, I didn't realise how tired I would be. I went back on week 5 and it nearly wiped me out. By week 6 all was well. It just depends on the person and the type of job they do.

That is awesome. You would have been the teacher's pet for my surgeon. :D

He kept telling everyone all along that he discharges with minimal restrictions and fully expected us to be up and running in a few days....certainly no more than a week. He stated repeatedly that the quicker we return to normal the life the more successful we'll be.

I can see what he means with this.

Do you find yourself running out of gas at work or are you feeling like you are experiencing normal energy ?

That does sound like a nice environment to got back to.

Enjoying the folks we work with and the interaction makes a big difference, I think, too. Positive environments are where we all want to be.

For about a week I would run out of gas around 3 or 4 pm, so I would go home. After that, I was fine.

Awesome new pic by the way.

My surgery is Tuesday and I plan on returning on Monday. I have a desk job that's very flexible so if I need a nap or to leave early it's not a problem. My coworker had her surgery on a Wednesday and came back on Tuesday.

My body may have other plans but hopefully I can return ASAP

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
