Beachy 2 Posted October 24, 2015 Anyone go back to work after 1 week or is 2 weeks the norm?
axlr8n 161 Posted October 24, 2015 I was sent home with a drain and was not ready after 1 week. I was out 3... but ready after 2. I still got tired and sometimes didn't make it the whole day through week 4 or 5 though.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted October 24, 2015 Everyone is different and it depends on what kind of job you have. I work from home. I did some work as soon as I got home from the hospital

itstimealready 180 Posted October 25, 2015 My surgery is Monday and I planned to return to my desk job the following Monday. I'm not telling anyone so being tired or leaving early will be a bit weird.
Chanti_ 27 Posted October 25, 2015 Anyone go back to work after 1 week or is 2 weeks the norm? I took 2 weeks, I'm a nurse and my job can be physically demanding @ times. I was ready to go back mentally, and for the most part physically as well. But now at a month out if I have a busy shift I am really fatigued. I don't seem to have the endurance yet that I'm used to. Tssiemer1 549 Posted October 25, 2015 Everyone knows I'm getting this done. So my work said they'd be really flexible and let me leave early and do work at home.

4MRB4PHOTO 3,900 Posted October 25, 2015 It all depends upon what type of work you do and how well you feel during the recovery. Most people feel well enough to go back to work in 1 to 2 weeks. Many surgeons recommend 2 to 3 weeks. Some return sooner but work less hours. There is no one-fit-all answer. Only you can make that decision based upon knowing what your job entails, how you normally react to being sick or if you had other surgeries (ex. Are you sidelined with the flu or are you still up and about?), what your surgeon recommends based upon the outcome of the surgery, financial and other personal reasons, etc.
wildflowergirl 23 Posted October 26, 2015 I'm a Preschool Teacher with 2 1/2 year olds and I am planing on taking 6 weeks just to be safe. If I decided to go back earlier it will be a bonus for my employer. My surgery is scheduled November 23rd and I'm scheduled to come back January 4th.
beckibut 10 Posted October 26, 2015 I work in the OR as a Surgical technologist that specializes in Orthopaedics and I'm taking 4 weeks off. I just can't see anyone being able to do that job after only 1 or 2 weeks post op. It's very physical with lifting heavy instrument trays and standing for long periods of time without access to fluids while scrubbed in. I wonder how I'll stay hydrated when I DO return to work. glitterpockets 85 Posted October 30, 2015 My doctor said if I had a desk job it'd be 4 weeks, if it's physical it'd be 6-8 weeks. Its different for every person and doctor
o00 494 Posted November 3, 2015 I am actually trying to find a less stressful job now that my surgery is over. Also, one that will be closer to home so I can incorporate a workout schedule and not spend three hours in traffic each day. I'm working with my company to see if I can get something locally. So far I'm very optimistic about seeing positive results from my surgery and a few lifestyle changes.
