Surgery OCT 27th eek!

Recommended Posts

I'm almost there!!! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. I'm reading everything I can and going to support groups and just soaking up everything I possibly can. Any last minute advice I should know about? I'm prepared for the liquid stage but not quite for the puréed stage. I have my chewable vitamins and all my Protein Shakes and Protein Powder. Also, I was reading the Big Book on VSG and it says my goal weight should be much smaller than what I was thinking was realistic for me anyone else have opinions on this?

You should calculate your BMI, it should be between 18.5 and 24.5 to be considered at a normal healthy weight. Any more than that and you are overweight. I'm shooting for a BMI of 21.5 or for me at 5'4" 125lbs. That weight puts me smack dab on the middle of normal.

The last few days are really hard. My surgery is Monday 10/26 and I just want to skip the weekend and be done. Best of luck to you. All the hoops we've jumped through will be worth it!

Best of luck!

The best advice I can give you is to follow your surgeon's instructions, do everything you are asked to do, even if you think you can't, and be gentle with yourself.

Walk as soon as you are able, and sip, sip, sip once you are cleared for liquids.

The sooner you can get in all of your Protein and fluids, the better you will feel.

I'm right behind you. My surgery is scheduled for October 28. I keep alternating between dread and excitement. I keep going over my lists and supplies to make sure I haven't overlooked anything. I'm so ready to get this done.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
