Weight loss has just STOPPED!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am currently down 130 pounds since my surgery in January. I lost 100 pounds pretty quickly (like in the first few months) and the rest is slowly coming off (lost about 30 pounds from mid May to mid September). But now my weight loss has literally just stopped! I have not lost any weight in about 2 months. I still weigh 238 pounds. I still have a lot more weight to lose!! I am eating a little more now than I could when I first had surgery. But I still eat A LOT less than I did before. I do eat some carbs but they are complex carbs. Sweet potatoes, 100% whole wheat, oatmeal. Stuff like that. But I was told it was okay to incorporate that stuff back in as long as you avoided the simple carbs. I also exercise A LOT. Like 2 or 3 times a day. I have been obsessed with trying to get off of this plateau but nothing seems to be working. Any advice would be helpful!! I am so frustrated right now!

I'd drop the sweet potatoes, whole wheat and oatmeal for 2 weeks and see what happens.

Do you know how many calories and Protein you're getting a day? Do you track that?

I would pin point how many calories and Protein and carbs you're getting a day, and hone in on how many calories you're burning a day with exercise. In my case, too much exercise slows my progress. Always has. You have to make sure your calories are supporting the amount you exercise, or the weight loss will stop.

And I concur with OutsideMatchinside...cut that stuff out for a couple weeks and I'll be willing to bet you'll lose again.

So in short, cut back on workouts, up your calories a little, but ONLY eat protein and veggies. Lots of Water. I'll bet that will work!

As Babbs said, it's possible you are exercising too much. If you are creating too much of a calorie deficit daily, then your body will go into preservation mode and shut things down completely.

I understand your pain! I have been in the same boat for the last few weeks. I have lost 95 lbs in 6 months since my surgery and it has always come off consistently, and then for the last few weeks, it has just stopped. I know its hard, but keep at it. Try and let yourself not think about it constantly (which I know is hard). As others said above, try giving yourself a break with the gym and cut out a couple of the carbs and see if that helps. I am trying the same things. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
